Forums - Gaming Discussion - what are your expectation for the next mainline final fantasy?

1. Real-time, but not action battle system. Use FF12 as a template, and then make something more interesting from there. I'd love a turn-based system, but mainstream gamers don't seem to want it. I'd be fine with a simplified system that looks like Xenoblade's. 

2. More fantasy-themed, less reality themed. FFX, FFXIV, FFVI, and FFIX had good balances between fantasy and reality in my opinion.  

3. Aesthetics/uniqueness >>>>> high-fidelity graphics. 

4. Focus on world-building and lore, and make a decent story with decent pacing that isn't convoluted for the sake of convolution, but is complex/multilayered enough to be interesting. 

5. Release within three years of announcement.

Too linear for my tastes. After X every game is just a spinoff, being made by people that had nothing to do with the 90's games. 

Both FFXII and XIII are turn-based and feature exploration. No reason to consider anything after X a spin-off, even if I understand people who sees XI and XIV in a different light than standard mainline FF.

And as Hynad told you, Final Fantasy XII was directed by Hiroyuki Ito (FFVI, FFIX) after Yasumi Matsuno (Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics) had already worked on it (though I'm unsure if Matsuno's input was scrapped or kept). FFXIII was directed by Motomu Toriyama, who has been working on SE since 1994 and had limited input on Final Fantasy VII, but became the scenario designer and writer for FFX. The 90's bunch of developers are still there.



Maybe cut the modern futuristic setting and go back to  a  fantasymiddle age one

I don't know. What I'd want, is a more eastern-style FF. The only FF that was remotely Asian imo was FF7 and 10. I want something more Asian again. And turn based. Action RPGs are bad and inferior in every way



Have a main playable female character.

Like, i'm expecting it to be what we saw in the agni demo. More medieval with magic setting.

For combat, i'd love ATB, bit since that isn't gonna happen, maybe something more tactical like FFXII. I want a combat system with depth. I want a menu with option, even if it's KH style.
I don't want hold the button to attack or auto-attack. I don't want to be able to get through the game with one button.
