1. Real-time, but not action battle system. Use FF12 as a template, and then make something more interesting from there. I'd love a turn-based system, but mainstream gamers don't seem to want it. I'd be fine with a simplified system that looks like Xenoblade's.
2. More fantasy-themed, less reality themed. FFX, FFXIV, FFVI, and FFIX had good balances between fantasy and reality in my opinion.
3. Aesthetics/uniqueness >>>>> high-fidelity graphics.
4. Focus on world-building and lore, and make a decent story with decent pacing that isn't convoluted for the sake of convolution, but is complex/multilayered enough to be interesting.
5. Release within three years of announcement.
