Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Xenoblade 2 took about 3.5 years to make

Huh... that explains why Xeno X took so long to come out aswell.

Not really, the dev staff in the early part of the project is not necessarily going to be the same people all the way through. Different people have different specialties, and different specialties have much heavier workloads at different phases of development.

Most of the engineer work happens early, while lower tier bug fixing and script coding (occurring mostly later) uses both a reduced engineering team as well as different staff with different specialties. The same deal with the art budget, the design work and roughs aren’t necessarily done with the same staff who does the bulk of the model work and animations. In the later portions of development, the leads might only require a day every two weeks for review purposes. The project will largely be in the producers hands at this point; Takahashi as concept designer, writer, and executive producer would have moved mostly off of XCX in the later stages and instead would be focused on sign offs. There are also multiple character leads. For example, Tanaka wasn’t the character director in for XC2, so he was free to work on XCX full time until the end of production; he did some work on XC2, individual character designs, but I suspect the bulk of his time has already been on a new project over the last couple of years.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

We did have that leak of a new IP (or a Xeno game in a Very different setting).
Monolith Soft clearly, can manage working on multiple projects at once.

I remember that pic, but I've seen a thousand pics like that from RPG devs. The amount that actually come to fruition seem small. Irregardless, Xenblade chronicles 1, X and 2 all are fairly different in worlds. One is on two dead god bodies, one is on a completely new planet and another is on a multitude of giant animals bodies. Whatever 'setting' that pic takes place on could easily be in the chronicles universe.

Yeah, but at that point, if the game does follow the concept art: Xeno is just a title.
As long as the developers can make what they want, their games should hopefully turn out decent.

Whatever Monolith Soft comes up with next, it has my attention.

I would like to see them working on something new. I am curious what they would create.

Makes me wonder what game they have been working on next to XB2 and when that is going to release.

Most likely that game will be released in 2020.

According to this article, Xenoblade 2 was in development alongside XBCX for about one year.
The team did not know the final specs of the Switch before they started development (should not be a surprise to anyone, but still worth bringing up).

It is nice to see that Nintendo has such a talented, swiftly working team to produce these large scale games in a timely manor.
I only wish I could see the proper time allocation for the project; what were they doing in 2014, how quickly did it take for them to go into full production.
I guess I will never know.

You can add this in OP, they few months ago teased their next project.

I was going on the assumption that everyone had already seen it.
It is probably good to keep things as self contained as reasonably possible, thanks for the suggestion.

monolith soft are really great developers, always liked the xenosaga games on ps2

Ah, yes. Thank you!

It usually takes around 3 years to make a game. So I'm glad to see that this game is not rushed. I thought releasing two years after Xenoblade X was a good idea.
