Forums - Gaming - CD Projekt Red "we leave greed to others"

CDPR also is very young company so it is hard to predict what we should expect from them when they will rise to the same level as the so called greedy giants like EA or Activision. Both of them also made some great games in their early years.

They are not young, they started in 90s in Poland as localised PC game sellers to earn enough money for their first game which was Witcher 1 plus they got fundings from their local Polish enterpreneurs for development too. Their business is just as carefully planned as anyone elses, it just happens that they don't make yearly games.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

They're a for-profit company, just like EA. And, that's good. That's why they make great game.

With that said, not pissing off customers is a good way to make money. So, as a businessman, I respect them.

'They're in for the money too!'

Well, no shit. The fuck do tou think games are? They're bound to make flaws once they expand like any other company (cough Nintendo cough). However, it shouldn't be unreasonable to assume they'll avoid things such as lootboxes.

The Witcher series was insanely successful, with the third entry and DLC probably making up a large chunk of the total trilogy's sales. Whatever they make next will probably continue that

Oh they are greedy alright. But they are smart enough not to piss off their customers, so they milk their employees instead.

Sadly that basically accounts to the whole (media) industry, I guess.

I'm sick of this developer cult. All this does is breed yet another shit show that will exploit their consumer's good will.

Remember the cult around Valve and Blizzard? Yeah, one of them is now openly giving a platform to scammers and the other one is officially crowned king of loot boxes.

In this day and age nothing any developer ever says should be taken at face value.

For now though, CD Projekt Red has been all good. Of course if it changes, we should pay attention, but all is good for now and in my opinion, they deserve all the positive attention.

Also, I haven't personally noticed much cult around Blizzard. It's mainly been about great games and not so much about business practices or anything. Valve did have more of a cult, but it's broken down a bit by now - although Steam is still a pretty good platform.

"if we believe there's a ONE percent chance that he is our enemy we have to take it as an absolute certainty... and we have to destroy him."

I'm more of the mind that I'm not a mindless idiot and can support developers as they are good and if CDPR does shitty stuff at that time I can hate on them. For now, why should I not praise them for doing what we want?

I feel like shit like this is pathetic honestly. Like, they see all the shit that's going on with EA and Star Wars Battlefront 2 and take the opportunity to try to make it about themselves and say "LOOK AT US!1! WE'RE NOT LIKE THAT LOOK AT HOW GOOD WE ARE WE'RE SO ABOVE THAT!1!" acting like their on a high horse.

I get that it's sort of a part of business, but it just looks like they're trying to score good will points with people from other company's fuck ups and portray themselves with a holier than thou attitude out of it.

Aye, and let's not forget when Blizzard also took shots at EA, when Starcraft II went F2P. Any company that sees another floundering, will willingly take pot shots at them to gain a better image.

I mean, look at this shit:

https://twitter.com/StarCraft/status/930534997915713536?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

https://twitter.com/StarCraft/status/930535216925491200?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

This is the same attempt that Blizzard took, and hardly many are taking notice of this, let alone CDPR talking about GaaS.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

There are plenty if devs who don't put lootboxes or microtransactions into games. So you're not special CD project. Still a great developer though.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.
