Forums - Gaming - L.A Noire Requires You To Download 14 GB Data Despite Physical Disc On Xbox One

I decided to put this in Gaming discussion, as I feel it relates to the cartridges sizes of the Switch, at least discussion wise, In any case, the Xbox One version is similar to the Nintendo Switch version, in that they both require downloads to be playable. Thus, I can conclude that it was not done specifically because of the Switch, but because Take-Two tried to cut corners everywhere in order to make a quick buck. The game just has 4GB on the disc, and requires a 14GB download:

This doesn't even make sense though, as that could have all fit on a 25GB blu-ray.

I got the source from here:

Not necissarily. Xbox One checks for updates before installing games.

The game could be ~18GB on disc, has a day one update of 14GB which replaces most of the old files on disc, so they won't get installed in the first place.

Also why does it say it requires the update. Never tried installing and playing the game offline? Then you'd have your answer.

So if someone buys this game and does not have the internet, are they screwed?

Yup this is exactly how it works and I'd be really shocked if it isn't 14GB or what ever on the disc.

Basically the Disc: 3.89GB means how much it's installing from on the disc.

Take DOOM for example connected to the internet since the DLC went free it looks like this only installing 700MB from the disc.

Where as if you disconnect from the internet the install looks like this:

I would presume this is the case with LA Noire but I don't have the game to try it offline and find out.

It's all sad practice in general but shttier for the Switch due to the small storage space.

What has to do the Switch limitations with any any of this? they could have used a 32GB card on switch just like they could have put all the game in one disc.

Check the post below yours ...

It's just shitty forced parity by Virtuous and Rockstar/Take-Two ...

Dude, use your brain, what you said makes absolutely no sense, the post below me was just an opinion of Tomatito not anything oficial.

LOL, neat attack right there ...

How ironic of you to ask me to use my brain when TomaTito just stated a plain fact in this case contrary to your perception ...

It's just shitty effort on Virtuous and Rockstar/Take-Two's part to gimp the port so PS/XB gamers should boycott this game ...

Now I guess console gamer's must know how it feels like to be a PC gamer when the Switch could gimp their games on a technical level ...

Can't believe you don't see the level of nonsense of your argument, there is no switch limitation holding the others back, Switch has 32GB cards, if they are using a 4GB one is because they want to and to suggest they are gimiping the other versions of the game on purpose just to give parity to all versions makes even less sense, they are winning absolutely nothing doing that.

This is all very strange.

I thought trying to cut corners and making the consumer indirectly pay for it was the accepted method of doing business around here?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

So when PS4, Xbox one and Switch become retro consoles with no online support all versions become junk because there is no way to get the missing files. So no better than buying digitally. For me part of the appeal of retail games is the fact you can play them many years from now. I still replay old games occasionally. So if anything LA Noire is more future proof on 360 and PS3. There should be some rule that game updates are allowed to be stored on any media and always available online which can be enforced by allowing refunds for games that have been made obsolete by no longer providing the updates. However if the company goes out of business this obviously won't happen.

It's like we are all being trained into accepting the removal of optical drives and cartridges altogether. Their benefits are gradually being eroded by this.

I thought the Doom cartridge situation was perfect. Single player on the cartridge, multiplayer download which will be unusable anyway when the servers are shutdown so pretty much as it should be. 10 years from now you can still play Doom on your retro Switch console in single player. I think any reasonable person understands Switch cartridges won't be cheap and extra capacity costs more money so as always with cartridges there is extra pressure to keep capacities small.
