Also why does it say it requires the update. Never tried installing and playing the game offline? Then you'd have your answer.

Yup this is exactly how it works and I'd be really shocked if it isn't 14GB or what ever on the disc.

Basically the Disc: 3.89GB means how much it's installing from on the disc.

Take DOOM for example connected to the internet since the DLC went free it looks like this only installing 700MB from the disc.

Where as if you disconnect from the internet the install looks like this:

I would presume this is the case with LA Noire but I don't have the game to try it offline and find out.
