As it turns out Nu-13 is exactly right.  PS4 has average legs, for a leading console.  The main factor that makes the PS4 have good legs is that it is the leading console for the generation.  Once you compare it to other leading consoles, then it has average legs.

Except the word "leading" has never been mentioned until you brought it up. So no.

The underlying discussion of this whole thread is which will sell better, PS4 or Switch?  You can say that PS4 has impressive legs, but Switch should also be expected to have impressive legs.  That is because leading consoles almost always have impressive legs (by that standard).

Switch is selling better than launch aligned PS4.  It is selling like a leading console.  We should expect it's legs to be impressive as well.  In fact, the Switch's legs are as likely to be better than the PS4's as they are likely to be worse.  When comparing leading consoles, PS4 is right in the middle.  That is why in the context of this thread it is misleading to say that PS4 has impressive, or even above average legs.  PS4 isn't more likely to have more impressive legs than the Switch.

Past Nintendo systems not having the longest legs doesn't mean Switch will follow suit.

That's the same logic that saw many people rule out BOTW selling over 10 million, simply cos "no Zelda ever has".

All bets are off with the Switch, it has shown time and again that it is quite unlike any previous Nintendo system.

I had a vision. My vision said 131,7M for the PS4
And 106,9M for The Switch.

So case closed.

You're welcome.

I just want both to keep selling like hotcakes so in the end we'll be able to say that all who said -consoles were dying- a few years ago were wrong.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

The PS4 sold through 20.2m in 2017. Switch still has a shot to reach 20m in 2019, but we still have to wait several weeks to get final confirmation via shipments and reported numbers by official trackers.

For older consoles I will post fiscal years that exceeded 20m in shipments because that can be looked up quicker than sell-through which isn't even available for all consoles.

PS1 - 21.6m FY ending March 1999.

PS2 - 22.52m FY ending March 2003, 20.1m FY 2004.

DS - 23.56m FY ending March 2007, 30.31m FY 2008, 31.18m FY 2009, 27.11m FY 2010.

Wii - 25.95m FY ending March 2009, 20.53m FY 2010.

Holy shit, that's more than I thought, thanks.

20 million is a given then, 2020 for Switch should be what 2017 was for PS4.

No, 2019 is a little higher than ps4 2017. 2020 will be even higher.

You need to know I have a lot of visions of the future. Until now none of them have been true.

I do expect the Switch to be too low and PS4 too high, but we'll see how far off you were.

PS4 seems to lose momentum outside Europe quite fast. If we see a Switch Pro in 2020 or 2021 it could match PS4 sales in long term. If we don't see a Switch Pro and a successor instead, PS4 should sell most.

A Pro model is irrelevant to whether or not Switch passes PS4.
