Afro Eurasia is also a supercontinent. It's all connected. So we've only got 4 major land masses.

America, Afro Eurasia, Antartica and Oceania

If you're going by "major land masses" it makes no sense to say Oceania. Australia is a major land mass, all the little islands around it aren't (and if they were you'd have to name them each separately).

Ah you're right, I thought Oceania was the continental name of Australia but it's just the name of the region.

North America has more legitimacy to be it's own continent than say something like Europe. North America has it's own tectonic plate, only connected to South America via a small land strip like Africa is to Asia and the small land strip is inaccessible to walk or drive across since it's a large swamp.

Back when they started to divide the world into continents, nobody cared about Russia, so they got the impression that the world existed out of 3 landmasses, divided by the Mediterranean Sea.

It's not that they didn't care, it's more about that they didn't know. The Greeks divided Europe and Asia to the north by the Don River (like how they divided Africa and Asia by the Nile) which is much further west than the current division at the Urals.

If you look at a reconstruction of the Hecataeus map of the world, you can see why Europe, Asia and Africa (Libya) were divided the way they were.

I was taught there were seven continents: North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, and Antarctica.

Of course, there were plenty of "sub-continents" which for the sake of convenience were not included among them as they were connected and/or adjacent to other continents, such as the Arabian Peninsula, India, and Greenland.

Never heard of Oceania, I learned Australia instead.

I think some teacher watches too much football (soccer) and grouped them by world cup qualifting groups lol

Zealandia could possibly be the 6th/7th geological continent, but there isn't scientific consensus yet.

One continent: Pangaea.

There are people that believe Latin America it's is own continent. Since we know they have access to the internet, just do one Google Search to find out. Doesn't take that much effort

Bet with Intrinsic:

The Switch will outsell 3DS (based on VGchartz numbers), according to me, while Intrinsic thinks the opposite will hold true. One month avatar control for the loser's avatar.

I was taught the usual 7 (With Oceania/Australasia often interchangeable terms) but as with many things it depends on how you define it and what you need to define it for as to which definition is most useful.

There are 2. The Americans even went down to Panama and dug a giant dividing ditch to make it visibly clear.

Once the wall is done, there will be 3. Central America will be caught between a rock and a ditch.
