It's not that they didn't care, it's more about that they didn't know. The Greeks divided Europe and Asia to the north by the Don River (like how they divided Africa and Asia by the Nile) which is much further west than the current division at the Urals.
If you look at a reconstruction of the Hecataeus map of the world, you can see why Europe, Asia and Africa (Libya) were divided the way they were.
