Forums - Nintendo - In terms of Indies, Nintendo's support is best this year

The Switch is only 7 months old, but the ammount of quality indie games it is getting is simply staggering.Fast RMX, Stardew Valey, Steamworld Dig 2, Golf Story, the newly announced port of Darkest Dungeon, Owlboy, Cave Story, Timbleweed Park, and many, many more Im certain Im forgetting. What it lacks in big AAA suppoort, it gets in spades with indie games.

Honestly speaking, the Switch, which are greatly enhanced by the portability(since most of them can be enjoyed on small play sessions, or just fit the format), is turning out to be a better platform for indie games than PS4, and its at least matching up to the indie support that PC gets.

The indie situation was getting rather good by the end of the Wii U life cycle, but I honestly didnt expect this jump on quality and quantity by the indies.Pleasently surprised.

Edit:I was too lazy to edit before, but just to clear things up for people that didnt read my replies through the thread:For the PC I will admit that I am biased since I am mostly a console gamer, and that the portability aspect and the indies the Switch gets(the exclusives, either timed or not) appeals more to me, and thus gives the Switch the edge. And the comparison Im making is for the time that the Switch is on the market, otherwise it wouldnt be "fair"(since the PS4 is almost 4 years old).

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Hey I love Switch as much as the next guy, but I don't think its library of indie games approaches those of PC or PS4. There are many more available in other ecosystems.

Maybe I should have said that it got more support in the timeframe that the Switch has been out.As I said, its hard to rival PC because basically every single indie develops for it since its cheaper and easier, but I feel like the Switch is ahead of PS4 for the support in this year. Its just not ahead overall because the PS4 is almost 4 years on the market, so its not "fair" for Nintendo in that sense.

Weren't most indie games that came out on the Switch also released on the PS4, though?

This could actually be the reason why Nintendo is getting so many and good indies.

Since the big publishers where gone, Indies where much more visible there than on Xbox or Playstation, and Nintendo additionally pushed and promoted them with their Nindies programm, even ging some of them physical releases. This in turn gave Nintendo a great reputation for Indie game developers, as they where selling comparatively well on the Wii U, with quite a few selling even better there than on the other consoles despite the much smaller install base.

Golf Story, Owlboy and Fast RMX are just some example of games that are either exclusive to Switch, or the other existant version is on PC.So no, thats not the case.

I think this is a perception thing because more articles/topics are made about indie games coming to the Switch. This could also correlate to Sony not promoting indies during their conferences anymore.

Even if we take March-September 2017, I still think PS4 wins out, and PC tops both. That said, there was a nice bump on Switch this month and it looks to continue into October. Maybe when Vita and 3DS support moves in earnest to Switch, the balance of power will shift.

So does this prove that Nintendo is actually helping them? They are giving Indies their own Ninty direct and even give notifications out to every Switch owner (unless they opt out).

Overall I suppose this is good, as it shows Nintendo is willing to support small developers.
