So it's official. After 13 years, Nintendo has vanquished Sony in handheld gaming.

That's because they're retarded with how they went with Vita. They could have made enough traction had they given it some love.
I mean I'm not surprised they're doing this bad in their handheld division. Speaks magnitudes with regards to their Xperia line up as well.
They can still pull this off if they are smart enough to find a way to integrate their Xperia line up with their Playstation brand. No, I don't mean Remote Play. I mean exclusive games for those. To achieve this though, they won't be able to use Qualcomm chips as they're very bad compared to Tegras.
I mean just do these checklist and you probably have a chance in the market.
-Modified Android OS. The closer to AOSP the better.
-Stop treating it like a regular PS on the go and defirentiate it
-Integrate or partner with Google to allow Google Play apps to work on it
It does not seem like Sony does have too much of a choice.
Sony is mainly in business with AMD. But AMD does not have an architecture that can compete with Nvidias Tegra.
I do not think that the contracts between Nintendo and Nvidia would allow Nvidia to produce chips also for Sony (or Microsoft).
I think what also didn't help Vita's case was no "main" Monster Hunter game for the Japanese audience and no GTA for the western audience. Those were big sellers for the PSP.

I'm pretty sure the moment that the games that are exclusive to Nintendo handhelds become available on smartphones that their beloved handhelds will instantly land in the trash. Handhelds are hostage devices.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
That was news three years ago. 6-7 years ago the 3ds saw its introduction to the market world wide - 6-5 after the DS. No predecessor in sight. But there is this hybrid. And a little mobile sidestepping. Could be said the market for traditional "game boy" handheld consoles is... dead.
Hunting Season is done...

I don't mind this at all to be honest. I like the fact that I don't have to worry about buying a handheld I don't really even want to play some of the games I want to play from Sony. Much better that their focus is fully on their home console, so everything they bring out is easily found on one system.

Oh yeah certainly. Its so much so that the Switch portability aspect has zero influence over the buyers decision on the west.
Certainly.
My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Lol, okay.
OP
I hope we all understand Swith is a hybrid. Sure, it's essentially a portable but it's getting games PS4 and Xbox One are getting within the same year. It's a hybrid.
for one, there is no problem making RPGs for smartphones. the problem is that the current buesness model doesn't work out for them, meaning mobile's low price essentially prevents high quality titles.
