Forums - Nintendo - Indie Game Wonder Boy sells more on Switch than anywhere else combined

Seems easy for a game nobody has ever heard of. Hard to find such a game in actually big libraries.

Being 29 and not having heard of Wonderboy.... not even the Tenacious D song titled....

Sometimes I'm unsure if your comments are meant to be sarcastic... but I'm thinking this one isn't, which is scary stuff.

The game is $30 on the AU PSN store. Why would anyone buy this when you've got sales with games like Bloodborne for $11? The Rayman Legends + Rayman Origins pack is currently $12. Bastion and Rainbow Moon are $6 each. Surely they don't expect to compete at that price.

And? Zelda is $60 on e-shop, and also Mario Kart, Splatoon and many others are twice the price of Wonder Boy. And yet it sold more on Switch

You missed his point.

You're sort of more in agreement with his post...

on Switch

AAA games like Splatoon, MK and Zelda are 60

Wonder boy is 20

on PS4

AAA games like Bloodbourn / 2x Rayman games or even the Bioshock collection are around 11-12

Wonderboy is 20

On the playstation platform, that same twenty can be used to buy 3x AAA games, it can buy 1/3rd of a AAA on Switch.

Expected. Retro Platformers sell best on Nintendo platforms. I wouldn't be surprised Sonic Mania sells the most as well on the Switch.

Switch is 9th generation. Everyone else is playing on last gen systems! UPDATE: This is no longer true. 2nd UPDATE: I have no Switch 2. I am now behind

Hard for casual PC and wannabe-PC gamers for sure. But for actual gamers Wonder Boy is a name that they've heard plenty of times before.

I bet that the vast majority (90%?) of console gamers today have never heard of Wonder Boy and 99.9% have never played it. Don't try to nostalgia goggle an insignificant franchise into relevance.

I have the physical version on PS4. It's a great remake of a game in a series I love. Kinda have no need for my Sega Master System copy but holding onto it regardless.

Great game, good fit for the platform, glad to see it sold well!

It's still on my list of games to finish, I'll make my way back around to it at some point

I like it a lot, it's very charming. This and Blaster Master Zero made a fantastic retro combo for me.

Too many indie platformers in the backlog. I see no reason to buy a full priced game, when you can get even better ones for half or one quarter of Wonder Boy's price.
Next purchases for that genre will be Inside, Shantae Half-Genie Hero, Snake Pass and Yooka Laylee

Guessing you don't even know what Wonder boy is. It isn't a full priced game. It cost $20. So you're suggesting games that cost $10, or even $5. While suggesting games like "Yooka Laylee" which will cost $40 when it comes out.

By full priced I meant a game without any discount. Sry for the confusion.

$20 for a 5 hour game (Wonder Boy). Too much IMO. When I buy games I try to get 1 hour out of it for every € I pay.
Yooka Laylee is $40 for 15-20 hours.

So for Wonder Boy I wouldn't spend much more than $5. For Yooka Laylee ~15€ (lowest price I've seen thus far for the retail version was 24€ so we're getting there).

I think that's an admirable goal, but it can backfire. Yooka-Laylee, for example, plays poorly for 20+ hours, whereas Wonder Boy plays like a dream for a fraction of that. If a game is a slog to get through, the extra hours become a liability, don't you think?
