I would rather large pay raises for teachers, with heavy emphasis on teachers working in high crime school districts. Those teachers are risking their lives as much as cops working in some of those places.

It would also incentivize good teachers to work there, rather than just the ones who are fresh/desperate.

It's a dilemma, because automation is going to replace a lot of jobs, and it has already been occurring for a while now. Factory and mining/drilling jobs are mostly replaced already.

Essentially, these are where taxes are going to have to be pressed. It makes sense as well, as it is the profit of these corporations that drain out most of the economy to support the overplayed leisure class.

I'm very curious what alternatives the naysayers in this thread propose when nearly half the jobs are lost to automation within 20 years (unemployment during the Great Depression peaked at ~25%, for reference). What should we do when millions and millions of people are downright unemployable through no fault of their own? Just say "you're on your own" and let them die?

At least conversations like this are happening more and more now. It may not be the final solution, but solutions need to be discussed ... AI really will change everything.

It's an idiotic idea. It's not the government's job to do this sort of thing and they don't have the money to just give people money.

From an economic standpoint, this is just about the worst investment imaginable, with a 90% loss on expected return. The whole point of debt is to expect future profits to compensate current losses; no sane government would do this. It's not like americans are wallowing on poverty and famine either, so it doesn't make sense on humanitarian grounds too.

Not to mention inflation is the most obvious outcome, such as it is everytime earnings increase more than productivity.

Where's the money gonna come from, sherlocke? The government is not some giant tit that provides succor to the masses. It's purpose is to provide security, rule of law and a stable envirnoment for it's people thrive in. People pay taxes and behave in exchange for that. People are supposed to earn their own way through life.

How about the left just pays for their own stupid ideas. No federal or state money. Just out of their own pockets. You can do whatever you want then.
