I got this info from another site. Don't know if its correct, as in, if its from first 3 days or a full week.

Launch sales comparison:
Zelda BOTW: 187,000
1 2 Switch: 80,000
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: 284,000
Arms: 100,000
Zelda BOTW + 1 2 Switch + Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Arms: 651,000
Splatoon 2: 671,000

Holy!

Because of the number of COMG points pre orders. The question is how many bought splatoon 2 but still not have a switch?

But COMG gives an indication only and for recently launched hardwares it doesn't correlate with usual numbers (even different games and platforms skew from the "norm"). These numbers for Splatoon are actually incredible

Well you should have said it those who said 800k in the thread (technically still possible if whole week is counted).

What's a "download card"?

Buying a voucher/code at a retailer, that lets you download the game from the eshop.

How was Splatoon 2 supposed to sell 1 million units first week when only 1.2 million Switches have been sold in Japan so far? It was never going to have an 85% attach ratio.

Selling 4-5 times what the first Splatoon sold week 1 and nearly half of Splatoon 1's lifetime sales in 3 days is quite an accomplishment.

So basically, it means digital sales are semi-included then.

Well most people buyed game directly from eShop whiotout any cards.

The cards frequently outsold the physical copy on Amazon for a few days. Media Create won't include them though, will they?

Of Course, cards are limited, but directly buy from eShop is not. :)

I honestly don't think if they released DQ on the Switch that it would've sold as much, that's how good I think the Splatoon numbers are

fix the title it's the First three days not first week.

Gematsu article:

Splatoon 2 sold 670,955 copies within its first three days of release in Japan, according to Famitsu numbers, making it both the biggest debut for a Switch title and highest selling Switch title to date. This number includes physical game copies, download cards, and Splatoon 2 Switch hardware bundles, but does not include digital sales.

In comparison, the original Splatoon for Wii U sold 156,610 units within its first four days of release, and achieved lifetime sales of 1,512,789 units.

The latest Famitsu numbers also put total Switch hardware sales in Japan at 1,205,087. That’s for an almost five-month period, from March 3 to July 23.

Are you for real? It's the launch week. There are almost no games that gets a full 7 days in its first week, but we still call it first week. This is literally how it is for every single game.

What's a "download card"?

A piece of cardboard or plastic with a number on it, which you can enter in  the digital store to download the game. It is a try to include local vendors into sales of digital software, because you don't want to piss them off (in the worst case they delist your hardware, hardware cannot downloaded).
