If true, Nintendo's reasoning for this would be that the purchase of a Switch 2 Edition still gives you the choice of playing the game on Switch 1 if you want. Plus it's also cheaper to manufacture.

Still, I'd prefer to have the whole game including the upgrade pack on the game card even if it meant that I couldn't use the game card in a Switch 1.

That's not a rumour it's written on the boxes shown in the direct.

That's how I read the boxes too. That it includes the switch 1 game and the upgrade pack as two separate things, but others have argued that it includes the switch game and upgrade on the cart. Notably the disclaimer doesn't say anything about a download or internet connection being required though.

Was thinking about getting the Zelda games, but if its not on the cart, I might as well just upgrade my Switch 1 versions.

And also get the superior box art of Metroid Prime 4 on Switch 1 instead of the Switch 2 box art covering the top and the bottom(with text).

Yeah, me too. The Switch 2 boxes look kinda ugly. Not a huge deal, but still...

Heh, it is what it is. I'll complain less if the artworks don't get butchered by the top red bar at least. 

But they also had to make it different enough. The same style with only the Switch 2 logo changed could've confused people likely. 

Can't say what they have now looks like the best of options though ...

Or how about taking the paper from the box, flipping it and putting it back in.

Big year for my wallet. My first kid is now old enough to want his own switch , plus having to find a bigger house for more kids( 2 currently, 3 more planned).
