Also, seems like Nintendo of Russia has accidentally revealed evidence of an upcoming Nintendo Direct!

Hope this is real and that it's officially announced shortly.

The message came as a reply to a fan on VK - a social media website in Russia. The user in question posted a comment asking for news on the rumoured January Direct and, rather surprisingly, the Nintendo page replied with a message roughly translating to "Kirril, good afternoon! Follow the news - soon expected!"

A January Direct is almost guaranteed to happen, the real question is when..

I hope so, cos at the moment Switch's 2018 is looking worrying like Wii U's 2013.

The indie support alone makes that untrue:

- Dragon Quest Builders 

And Nintendo:

That makes a lot of sense, will probably find out tomorrow if that is the case

I don't really see how there won't be a January Direct..

I hope this is true, I'll actually be able to watch it if that's the case.

Indies don't sell systems though, you need major titles for that, and so far it looks like Kirby is the only such game in the whole first half of the year. And even Kirby, Yoshi, and Fire Emblem aren't big system sellers.

Take a look at the Eshop, indies are outselling major titles like Skyrim and Doom with ease. Rocket League and Stardew Valley are constantly in the top 5. 

I've heard quite a few people say they bought a Switch to enjoy all these indies on a portable machine. 

One indie might not sell a console, but hundreds of good indie games will most certainly.

Nobody (or no significant amount of people) are gonna run out and buy a $300 USD system to play indies, especially not when they can play those same games on every other major platform. For instance, decent indie support didn't exactly help the Vita or the Wii U.

Systems are moved by big-name killer apps, games like Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, or Monster Hunter in Japan. So far though, there aren't any killer apps confirmed for Switch in 2018.
