Well… I’m very sorry for starting a war in the Club Nintendo forum. Oof! Did not expect this to turn into such a war.
Anyways.. I just 100% beat Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. And yes, you read that right. The game I’ve dragged through the mud for the past several months despite having watched nothing more than an Arlo video? I just 100% beat it. I got 200% of the green crystals, every hidden items, and…well…only 83% of all scans. But that’s because I missed a lot of the early game perma-miss scans.
Overall impressions? 8.7 out of 10. I don’t know if Sony paid off the critics or something, but this game is legitimately perfectly fine. Sure, virtually every aspect of the story is comically bad, and there are certainly many very questionable game design choices— but in the end, it really didn’t bother me. Like at all. I appreciate when a game isn’t some magmun opus masterpiece. The gameplay loop was very fun, and honestly? While I did get around 23hr of playtime out of the game, I kinda wish it went on for a bit longer. Especially for the $70USD price tag.
Make no mistake: This is very different from the Metroid Prime we all know and love. But the foundation laid here really does give me hope for the future of 3D Metroid. It gives me heavy Sonic Frontiers vibes. And with that… my Spring Break is over. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Super Mario Bros 3 NES were the two games I played this break. Next up: Either DKBananza, Pokémon Legends Z-A, or Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. |
Glad you had a good time with Prime 4; I did as well.
It's not a traditional Metroidvania, nor as masterful as Prime 1-3, but it's still a well made and enjoyable game in my book.
Of the three you mentioned, I'd recommend DK Bananza first, that and RE Requiem are the system's best games to date. (Again IMO)
