Fusion is the best ability the series has ever had period it's not even close as it gives every item a valid use, it not just creates a resource framework it gives the player customization of weapons, items and shields to their liking from Ice Boomerangs to homing arrows to even smoke bomb shields that blind enemy groups if struck, the player creates their own legendary items. The ability is far more intricate than any item that the series has had by an immense margin and that's not even debatable so the ability making a return and being expanded on is not a surprise as it's the type of mechanic that can carry an entire game by itself.

Going back to my very first point about not reading to much into this, this patent doesn't confirm anything about the next Zelda. Just worth reinforcing. Plenty of unused mechanics get patented.

Lastly I fully appreciate the power of fusion. It defined TOTK and maybe would be too defining to replicate again imo. I'm also interested in newer, more involving ways of actualizing what refusion itself replaced.

Imagine for example, instead of fusing x/y weapon with x/y gemstone, you instead have a dedicated tool that can absorb elemental properties from the environment/enemies. New gameplay systems can be built on how that feels/works, how elements are stored and how you can release them in different forms and/or add then to you weapon as temporary enchantment or whatever...

Simply making a point that there's a whole world of possibilities that keep variety but without having the same execution of fusion (go into menu, find item x, find item Y, fuse together)

Anyway I eagerly await whatever the team is working on and trust they will be conscious of evolving and improving gameplay feel, intuitiveness and immediacy, and not just depth and complexity.

Finally! I remember trying Xenoblade X last year, but quickly put it b/c with Switch 2 around the corner, I thought the game would get patched up pretty quick. Glad to finally see it getting fixed up.

(The only issue now is that my copy of Xenoblade X is at my parents’ home… I am currently away at university, and will be until May. :( )

Now… where’s TTYD, Nintendo?

Anymore rumors about a General Direct?

Ah, so you have summoned me.

In short: No. SwitchForce (who does have a legitimately strong track record as of late) has suggested possibly a General Direct during the first week of March, but NateTheHate and other sources aren’t saying much anything.

My personal theory is that Nintendo is trying to schedule the presentation to fit as comfortably with the Mario Movie as possible— if they do have a big 2D/3D project to reveal, they will want to maximize the impact with this movie. And seeing that The Duskbloods recently had a release date of 3-27 revealed by an Australian retailer, I suspect we will have a Direct around the time of or before the Mario Movie.

With how few releases are known for after the Mario Movie (there will only be Tomodachi & Xenoblade X, both of which release shortly after the film’s debut), I think we should have a General presentation no later than the first or second week of April.

Fusion already does this enemy drops all have a property you can use in this exact way you essentially want a tool that does what the mechanic already offers you're not really making a case here as that's already in TOTK, elemental items are used as enchantments in fusion did you not use the mechanic at all? Even what you're taking issue with in the patent adds even more gameplay elements as you could mix and match item properties.

Say what you will about GKCs, but Pokopia will be completely spoiler free up until the embargo lifts (a couple days prior to launch).

I mean, just imagine: Had TotK been on GKC, then maybe Nintendo wouldn't be going off on their current massacring spree against all of these Switch emulators. Honestly, I can't even blame them for responding so aggressively— I'm all for game preservation, but these emulators should at the very least give it a full calendar year before allowing newly release software to be playable.
