Probably, sheep tend to follow the herd.

So the sheep are reviewers following gamers with opinions? Well I guess I learned something new for the day!

No, other way around.

Honestly, graphics aren't something I get "blown-away" by, both games the OP mentions look good but that hasn't spoiled me from playing other games or wanting to wait until PS5. but hey, you obviously put a heavy importance on graphics; if that's really how you feel then so be it.

John formed his own opinion from play time, though. Reviewers got early copies and had similar sentiments. But forget all that - if they're all easily impressed, what other games have these two beat in a significant way?

I didn't say any games have either game beat in any significant way, I'm just not impressed by their graphics to the point that I think other games look last gen or I want to wait for PS5. OP is entitled to his opinion, though.

Graphics and importance are mutually exclusive in my world and not really relevant to what I'm saying. I just didn't get what made him (and others) so easily impressed when the general consensus of both games is that they are the top of their respective classes. I would agree if we were talking about a game (or games) not considered for visual supremacy.

That post wasn't directed at you, that was my general response to the OP.

I totally agree with the OP xD I only just recently started playing Horizon ZD and even after only a few hours, I feel like I've been super spoiled with all of these crazy amazing graphics and artistic design. Developers like Guerrilla and ND are just great for this attention to detail, wowzers!

Hellblade proves that there's still plenty of life left in the gen and that games will surely top Uncharted 4 and Horizon before all is done.

Too many times in that game I thought "No way this is real time" and entered photo mode. Too many times, I was wrong.

Yeah Hellblade looks crazy, ~6-7 hour AAA class on an indie budget too. Action game studios making titles with worse graphics have no excuses if NT can achieve this.

Eh, not all game devs chase that type of visual look. Often times, it pays to put those resources elsewhere.

I just saw some review and basicly is the order 1886 how it was meant to be, $30. Considering that I liked the order I will happyly pay $30 for a 7 hour great experience.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

True about people being impressionable.

I don't see why anyone should consider Horizon's graphics to be mindblowingly great. For example, you walk towards the branches of a tree and then right through them with no reaction whatsoever. The same holds true for all kinds of foliage, the sole exception being the tall grass that is used for the stealth aspects of the game. Another example is that wind makes Aloy's hair clip through her ears and cheeks. That it can rain inside a cave is also a bit strange.

Basically, Horizon has the same shortcomings in its graphics that other games have, in some aspects (like foliage reacting to the player) it lags behind games on older hardware.

Great graphics are something like a stone being tossed into the water and causing a realistic ripple effect. Similarly, if you fantasize about next gen graphics, you wouldn't only think of water reacting in an appropriate manner, but all kinds of things that can be touched. Improved textures and some flashy special effects are par for the course, they don't make games look like PS5 level.

You know those are physics and Horizon pretty much lacks them. Uncharted has way better physics though and so does hellblade. Horizon is a pretty huge open world and does most things very well and there is foliage that reacts to aloy, just not everything. Trees do get demolished by giant robots though. There are faults in Horizon but it's an open world rpg which tend to have those kind of faulta,  especially if you want them to be better looking than Skyrim. The animations of the enemies are also bounds ahead of most other open world rpg's so for a PS4 game Horizon is pretty much as graphically good as it's hardware allows. If you want a more interactive world you should play Uncharted 4.

Horizon might have a stronger visual impact than most games, but you're right it lacks that believable mesh of your character interacting with the environment (particularly with the water). It's a game of sacrifices though, visuals were likely prioritized over other systems, creating drawbacks in other areas. (It's also open world). It will be interesting to see their next title.

Uncharted 4 is a different animal though. There's nothing yet as polished or as deep in terms of details.
