Forums - Gaming - The Xbox One X is a great value and expensive simultaneously

His point is valid though... A lot of hardcore fans who already bought the 500,- KinectBox at launch will also gave bought the One S for 399,- last year and are now asked to shell out another 500,-. As lots of hardcore fans will probably update the market for used X1/X1Ss will explode and make them very cheap...I mean Mucrosoft themselves were forced to sell the X1S for 200 including games lately and it still didn't sell.

The Xbox One S was never on sale for $399...
It launched for $299 AND MS announced the Xbox One S WITH the Xbox One X (Scorpio). So you knew that there will be a more powerful console out in 2017 when you bought the S in 2016.

To be fair X1S did launch for $399 with a 2TB and I think a game. But the $299 model was announced to come as well.

Eitherway, I'm not sure what argument is being made. Consoles get cheaper over time, variations and improved devices are now common, and used hardware is worth less. But these are somehow points being made to attack Xbox it seems.

Honestly the bluray player is useless. I don't know anyone still popping in DVD's and blurays to watch a movie. Everbody streams evreythign that's where things are headed. They wasted their money with that addition.

Your argument is one based on only ancedotal evidence? Okay then.

There are still millions of people who use CD's, DVD's, Blu-Rays. And there is only 1 console on the market that can play them all, soon to be 2. The Xbox One S. And the Xbox One X.
It's a checklist feature that appeals to those who actually care about the best quality Audio and Video. Aka. Videophiles.

The Playstation 4 cannot even play back CD's. I mean seriously. Could have had backwards compatability with the PS1 if it did.

Sure just like there are still millions of people who buy cd's most of them in the Country music industry. You have to know your audience. If you think a majority of people looking into gaming consoles are concerned with the fact that it can play blue ray or not well that's fine but it's not something I would gamble on. I was a huge 360 fan but MS just has a habit of doing this in every industry their notorious for it in the IT industry (which I work in). They are just constatnly doing things that no one is really asking them to do. With the X1 they've invested in two technolgoies that are just dying and this isn't anecdotal this is verifiable facts. The TV industry and the DVDbluray industry are dying. Sells fell 14% in 2014 and another 12% in 2015, 7% in 2016. Do you see the trend? That's a huge drop in 3 years and it's not going to stop so why make people pay for something that is consistently dying?

It would have been much smarter to not include it and lower the price of the X1 which is something that everybody cares about in the gaming industry, you know their core audience. Do the same for the TV stuff that threw on and even more money saved and now you can compete with PS4 when it comes to the price.

I had no clue the PS4 couldn't play CD's because I don't even have one in my house to play. It can play DVD's though I just used it to play some video I got on my vacation in Jamaica. Since the PS4 came out that was my first time inserting anything other than a game.

I think the One X is a good value for the hardware it offers, but not a good value for what the hardware actually does.

I mean...$499 to play the same games as your Xbox One S at a higher resolution? That's just not a great value for what it does.

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

I think you are missing the point. Just because sales have dropped for a specific type of media, doesn't mean that media is worthless. 14% of say 10 million sales is still millions of sales.

Plus, the cost of implementing a Blu-Ray drive that supports UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, DVD and CD's over a drive that only support Blu-Ray and DVD could also be non-existent as many older PC drives just need a firmware update (free) that enables such functionality. So your entire argument is moot.

Plus, there is obviously value in backwards compatability. Without DVD support, the Xbox One wouldn't be able to support Original Xbox and Xbox 360 optical media. It's one of the main highlights of the Xbox brand right now.

Fact is, consoles are expected to do more than just play games these days. And it's the Xbox One S and Xbox One X that has the best media functionality.

And from a consumer perspective, more choice, value and features is not a bad thing. So stop bagging it.

It's what spencer said. It's the best place to play multiplats. If you want everything else at this juncture, you know where to go.

I'm not saying it's worthless I'm saying maybe it's not a good idea to invest in it espicially when your device is targeted to the younger generation who are going to the #1 type of consumer to have moved on from standard TV.

You can't make up a scenario you have no idea if it's true or not and then say my point is moot. Prove that this is true and then we can say it's moot.

DVD support is a good thing for backwards compatibiliy I agree. I was reffering to the 4k blueray player though.

Fact is Sony decided to redidicate themselves to gaming their generation and they've dominated the competion in doing so. X1 having the best media functionality is great but they've failed at the #1 thing people buy the X1 for and that's gaming.

My main point is removing the TV stuff and the 4k Bluray stuff and the Kinecy were all ways that MS could have lowered the cost of their system and made it more price friendly. Yet they continue to add this stuff that no one is really clamouring for. What people are clamouring for is more games and they've failed to invest in that stuff because they are more concerned with media entertrainment.

I don't even think it's the best place to play multiplats .That goes to the PC if you ask me. I guess if he's just talking consoles then yea he's right.

It is a good idea to invest in if money is still to be made, even in a shrinking market.

Just so you are aware, by demanding I meet the requirement for evidence, I will expect you to do the same going forwards.
And for the record. I had already done the research about this very topic back before the XBox One S launched with it's 4k drive, so you assuming "I have no idea" is blatantly false.

In-fact. I'll link to myself this time around as this argument has been done to death.

Having a drive that plays all media isn't counter to being a good platform for gaming you know. You can legally have both.

Kinect, TV stuff has nothing to do with 4k Blu Ray. That is a straw mans goal-shifting argument.

And clearly people do enjoy these features. Just because you don't doesn't mean millions of others do not.

You are lucky I even saw this discussion re-appear in my VGChartz Buddy list. Sometimes I participate in allot of discussions and threads that are a few days old get kicked off the list. So try and reply a little more timely please. :)
