Honestly the bluray player is useless. I don't know anyone still popping in DVD's and blurays to watch a movie. Everbody streams evreythign that's where things are headed. They wasted their money with that addition.

Your argument is one based on only ancedotal evidence? Okay then.

There are still millions of people who use CD's, DVD's, Blu-Rays. And there is only 1 console on the market that can play them all, soon to be 2. The Xbox One S. And the Xbox One X.
It's a checklist feature that appeals to those who actually care about the best quality Audio and Video. Aka. Videophiles.

The Playstation 4 cannot even play back CD's. I mean seriously. Could have had backwards compatability with the PS1 if it did.

Sure just like there are still millions of people who buy cd's most of them in the Country music industry. You have to know your audience. If you think a majority of people looking into gaming consoles are concerned with the fact that it can play blue ray or not well that's fine but it's not something I would gamble on. I was a huge 360 fan but MS just has a habit of doing this in every industry their notorious for it in the IT industry (which I work in). They are just constatnly doing things that no one is really asking them to do. With the X1 they've invested in two technolgoies that are just dying and this isn't anecdotal this is verifiable facts. The TV industry and the DVDbluray industry are dying. Sells fell 14% in 2014 and another 12% in 2015, 7% in 2016. Do you see the trend? That's a huge drop in 3 years and it's not going to stop so why make people pay for something that is consistently dying?

It would have been much smarter to not include it and lower the price of the X1 which is something that everybody cares about in the gaming industry, you know their core audience. Do the same for the TV stuff that threw on and even more money saved and now you can compete with PS4 when it comes to the price.

I had no clue the PS4 couldn't play CD's because I don't even have one in my house to play. It can play DVD's though I just used it to play some video I got on my vacation in Jamaica. Since the PS4 came out that was my first time inserting anything other than a game.
