The TV industry and the DVDbluray industry are dying. Sells fell 14% in 2014 and another 12% in 2015, 7% in 2016. Do you see the trend? That's a huge drop in 3 years and it's not going to stop so why make people pay for something that is consistently dying?

I think you are missing the point. Just because sales have dropped for a specific type of media, doesn't mean that media is worthless. 14% of say 10 million sales is still millions of sales.

Plus, the cost of implementing a Blu-Ray drive that supports UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, DVD and CD's over a drive that only support Blu-Ray and DVD could also be non-existent as many older PC drives just need a firmware update (free) that enables such functionality. So your entire argument is moot.

Plus, there is obviously value in backwards compatability. Without DVD support, the Xbox One wouldn't be able to support Original Xbox and Xbox 360 optical media. It's one of the main highlights of the Xbox brand right now.

Fact is, consoles are expected to do more than just play games these days. And it's the Xbox One S and Xbox One X that has the best media functionality.

And from a consumer perspective, more choice, value and features is not a bad thing. So stop bagging it.

I'm not saying it's worthless I'm saying maybe it's not a good idea to invest in it espicially when your device is targeted to the younger generation who are going to the #1 type of consumer to have moved on from standard TV.

You can't make up a scenario you have no idea if it's true or not and then say my point is moot. Prove that this is true and then we can say it's moot.

DVD support is a good thing for backwards compatibiliy I agree. I was reffering to the 4k blueray player though.

Fact is Sony decided to redidicate themselves to gaming their generation and they've dominated the competion in doing so. X1 having the best media functionality is great but they've failed at the #1 thing people buy the X1 for and that's gaming.

My main point is removing the TV stuff and the 4k Bluray stuff and the Kinecy were all ways that MS could have lowered the cost of their system and made it more price friendly. Yet they continue to add this stuff that no one is really clamouring for. What people are clamouring for is more games and they've failed to invest in that stuff because they are more concerned with media entertrainment.
