Forums - Gaming Discussion - The Xbox One X is a great value and expensive simultaneously

Well the problem is we don't know whether the device is going to last longer than 3 years. Before the X2 is announced if it even gets announced or MS us going to turn Xbox into a W10 gaming pc brand. If it gets support for another 4 years and exclusive which use the potential of the console it's value iems fine. If it doesn't and only gets a few cross games at the launch of the PS5/X2 in 2020 it's value perspective gets darker.

What's worse is that this appeals to many Xbox gamers. This means the upgrade+OG xbox one/xbox one s will set you back $800-$1000, assuming they won't do a trade-in deal. Add in your comment and I'd honestly rather spend money on something else

An interesting video from Spawn Wave

Oh shit, I forgot that the original 360s didn't have built in Wi-Fi. The thing is, for me, the Xbox One S is much cheaper, and the X does not give me really anything that I want, so it's always going to look expensive compared to the S, for what is not really something that I'm interested in.

I think it sorta is worthless in itself if you don't have a 4K TV. I get that TV prices aren't steep and you can get a decent 4K for as low as $1000, but after add ons and games I'm looking at a nearly $2000 price tag bare minimum. I own the OG model minus Kinect, and even I can say I have no interest buying Xbox One X. You're ultimately fine just buying the S for half the cost. I would consider the X a decent value, but when you have a fair alternative for a WAY lower price, I don't consider it a great value. If I have to spend $2000 to get the BEST console experience to date, I'll just get a high end PC. I don't see the value in it.

isnt ps4 pro selling 1/5 of ps4?
XOS is half price of XOX, so i think this ratio will be even smaller XOX situation.
Also, xbox one sells 1/3 of ps4..
So, i think is easy to say that XOX will sell barely 1/15 of what PS4 sells.
2 million a year, if we be very optimistic

Yep.  And I think just like the Pro, it's mostly going to be taking the place of a normal PS4 purchase.  In other words, it's not actually helping it be up YOY.  The reason the PS4 is up YOY, while the XBO is down is plain and simple.  Exclusives.  And a $500 console with none isn't going to change that.

@ OP

I don't think it is a good value for the money.  Really, when the Pro launched it was kinda pushing that value/cost boundary.  But, by this holiday season, when it is $299-$349, it'll be better.  But, for an extra $150-$200 the XBX isn't worth it without a significant upgrade in the CPU and type of RAM used.  In Nov they are going to expect people to pay at least $150 more for a GPU that is going to be held back by the system's CPU, the same Jaguar cores that the older systems have. And by time the XBX launches, you are going to be able to build a decent PC that outperforms the CPU, while having an on par GPU, for the same cost.

And for gamers who only game on consoles, it's definitely not worth it when the PS5 is most likely coming out 2 years after it launches and will be at least double the power of the XBX for ~$399, with exclusives to boot.  At which point MS may do what they have done for 2 gens straight, abandon their old HW a couple of years early to focus on the new one.  Or they may just completely focus on Windows gaming altogether.

You're not wrong. Only system I can think of price wise was similar in this regard is Neo Geo AES. If you could afford it it was awesome. Still cost too much. Still a great value to buy the competition which cost less and still a lot to play. Xbox One X has nothing exclusive to it alone however.

If Xbox games are what you want to play then the Xbox One S is much better value though...

4K tank ass bear.

So, would it then be fair to say that loaded consoles simply aren't successful in terms of revenue/profit?

Well. Microsoft learned from the original Xbox and had less integration with the 360. By dropping a premium price on accessories like the external HD-DVD drive, Wifi, Hard Drive etc' Microsoft made allot of profit from it.

Eventually due to cost cutting and smaller chip manufacturing they could start integrating features like Wifi or a little bit of Flash memory at little/no cost.

The Xbox One S thanks to cost cutting/smaller chip manufacturing could include the 4k Blu-Ray drive, better wifi etc'.

But I think in general, hardware feature loaded consoles aren't as successfull in terms of profit on their initial release.

Also, I'm not exactly a PC enthusiast, so what would the Scorpio's GPU be comparable to? A 1060-1070?

Should be roughly equivalent to a overclocked 1060.
A 1070 is a big step up with twice the performance of the RX 580 in some instances, if not more. No way can Scorpio reach such hights, it's GPU is only mid-range.
Plus the 1070's overclock like a champ.

I own the crystal special edition original Xbox. The Halo 4 edition Xbox 360 and the original Xbox One WITH Kinect.

The Xbox One X's main draw card on it's release is it's backwards compatability which is essentially worthless to me anyway, owning all the Xbox platforms.
And yet, I will still be getting the Xbox One X and selling my old Xbox One. (I am keeping the Kinect though, voice commands are convenient.)

Value is not always important to everyone. Value and Gaming sorta' went out the window when I started water cooling my PC's.

X1X is releasing alot cheaper than the fat PS3 and 360 last gen and your getting amazing value at a better price.
Alot of you dont understand the strategy. Its not suppose to outsell Pro or X1S. Its building the image of the brand. X1X is not going to be mass produced like the X1S or PS4/Pro so its target sale figures are going to be alot lower.
