No, I think monster hunter world is just a console spinoff for the non-handhelds. Capcom already has Monster Hunter XX for Switch. Then MH 5 will come out back to the handheld of Nintendo Switch. (Switch is a handheld that can be docked)

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems the majority of main line games are on home consoles. So why would MHW be a spinoff just because it's on home consoles? Especially since Capcom confirmed that it's a main entry to the franchise.

I'm sure there will be another main line MH on the Switch but I doubt it will be exclusive to it and will also release on home consoles.

Yeah I'm wrong, just realized most mainline monster hunters are on consoles

switch will probably get monster hunter world a few months before ps4 and xbox one get monster hunter 5. and if monster hunter world doesnt sell well on the switch, capcom wont be bothered porting monster hunter 5

Monster Hunter World is Monster Hunter 5, unfortunately. And a Switch version of the game with local coop probably would outsell both versions on the other platforms, assuming the coop works out well.

The bolded are handheld titles, the unbolded are console ones.

This table shows really well how MH was never really given a chance on home consoles in the West. I'm interested in how this goes.

It's been given two chances both on the top selling platforms at the time one of those with Nintendo market the franchise, western gamers aren't into it as much because the series requires a playstyle that puts many of them off. It's one reason the portable community have been more accepting of it as it allows pick up and play but only if you're willing to grind and improve your skill, portables have also allowed for lan style gatherings in the same style of what the Pokemon community does.

If Japan where MH is big doesn't move a lot on console don't expect the west to, it's a Dragon Quest scenario.

It'll be interesting. It all depends on whether or not the series can break that niche barrier. Being multiplayer helps with that, and Capcom seems to think it can; however, they thought the same for other series that had much more success already in the west when they changed the mechanics and that often backfired. Monster hunter has a steep learning curve for a reason, and this makes the series niche in the West. If they remove the learning curve, I can only see them doing that by making the game not Monster Hunter, but people keep insisting that it will feel like Monster Hunter. So it all depends on how Capcom implements it. One thing is for sure is that the game is not going to sell in the West based on brand. It needs to get great reviews and have mass-appeal.

A prediction about Capcom porting a game can't be bold.

Not sure, they rarely port across enemy lines. I'm not seeing RE7 or Street Fighter 5 on the Switch.

History says otherwise. I still remember when Code: Veronica was a Dreamcast exclusive.

RE7 is already on PS4, Xbox and PC, it'll be ported to all next-gen systems, and if it isn't on Switch it's because like many others, Capcom marked the Switch as "not AAA worthy" as soon as the console was announced. The problem with Street Fighter is that after SFV flopped Capcom doesn't know what to do with the franchise.

I'm really worried about this one. I don't know if Capcom will bother with some form of downgrade to fit the Switch (although it's coming to the PC, so it will have to fit low power rigs) instead of just making another MH for the Switch. They are going the wrong way with this, you can't alienate your fanbase after years on handheld, then suddenly no handheld at all and no localization.

That's not entirely true. Minimum specs means it won't have to fit low power rigs if it can't or they don't want it to. Something I know all too well since my computer often fails to meet minimum specs of new games

Yup, a lot of  PC games are requiring a minimum of 8gb of ram, with the Switch only having 3gb usable for games as opposed to the 5gb available on xbo/ps4 that'd probably be one of the biggest challenges in porting the game to Switch, especially with it's lower memory-bandwidth.

Monster hunter would have to be an AAA series for that to be a problem, though. Even with World, it is not.

Yeah, but I was talking about RE7 there.

Those don't look like real chances to me. I would like to see how it does on a PS4 where a wide variety of demographics plays and especially people who like action RPGs. It probably won't sell a lot on PC but it will be very appreciated there too.

If Capcom does the marketing right it could be a first step. Of course it won't sell as much as previous entries but it's a start to make it more popular. The genre isn't the problem.
