It's been given two chances both on the top selling platforms at the time one of those with Nintendo market the franchise, western gamers aren't into it as much because the series requires a playstyle that puts many of them off. It's one reason the portable community have been more accepting of it as it allows pick up and play but only if you're willing to grind and improve your skill, portables have also allowed for lan style gatherings in the same style of what the Pokemon community does.
If Japan where MH is big doesn't move a lot on console don't expect the west to, it's a Dragon Quest scenario.
