Who owns Atari nowadays? As far as I remember the brand has been passed around quite a bit and has been usd to push horrible shovelware on on people uder a 'reputable' name in the past hasn't it?

Since this is Atari we're talking about, I'd rather love to see a x86 version of Atari TOS.

Consoles are becoming more and more like gaming computers, so a revival of the Atari ST (this time standing for sixty-four; thirty-two instead of sixteen; thirty-two) in a Atari 2600-like case would intrigue me

Atari SA, which is the french publisher formerly known as Infogrames. Went into bankrupcy in 2013 and sold off many brand names, which might be why they want to use the brand power for a console now

And no, deep pockets really ain't a thing here. Revenue is around 8M a year, basically what a big publisher gets on launch day of one of their smaller franchises

Atari box? Sounds like they're trying to take Microsoft's place in the console market.

If they make it Abox for short it would make for some damn funny unboxing video's:

It does not appear so.  It appears to be the old Infogrames, which has since changed its name to Atari.  

Given this, it seems nearly impossible that they would have a new, current gen level console.  I can't imagine they could even handle the R&D needed to produce such a system.  Also, what would be the point, with no IP that anyone cares about?  

Well, if it's not a retro thing and it is not portable, I'm in.
