I have two of the gold headsets, and they are indeed wireless (and bluetooth at that) . While I don't use them much, they've worked as expected every time I've used them. But that's just my anecdote, take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks. That makes sense. I couldn't see how it wouldn't be wireless, as it would be profoundly stupid to take such a step backwards, while also throwing in a dongle that's strictly ornamental.

This is a Hori accessory, right? So... it's probably just their idea to bring all stuff together (I think/hope).

It has it.  That's how the Joy-cons connect to the system.

As for Bluetooth headsets, that's locked out at the moment.  The Switch won't pair with them right now.  I suspect they are locked out now because they have something in mind for it as part of that new online system they are launching later this year.    If that's the case, this bungled mess of a solution is temporary.  If they leave this as their permanant solution, they may well not release it at all.

I'm hoping something better comes later this year. I hope this Hori thing is supposed to just be a placeholder considering Splatoon 2 is coming July and the online stuff won't be ready 'til fall or so...
