All hopefully  wishing..

When the switch has sold 50 mill ps5 is already  far into  the  genn..

Switch will sell tens of millions (more than PS4) and Nintendo will make more profit/console than Sony. The only wishful thinking is believing all PS4 owners will upgrade to a PS5.

If Nintendo lets 3rd parties keep 100% of any DLC and/or portable CoD/GTA/FIFA becomes popular, Sony can say goodbye to all that lovely digital revenue.

Wow, very bold preditction. Explain your reasoning or ideas on how it's going to sell tens of millions more. The Switch would have to do PS2 numbers or greater to achieve that.

A. Despite not being available, or as well advertised, packaged or localized in as many regions as the PS2.

B. Despite (and this ones pretty big), also actively competing against one of the highest selling consoles of all time (PS4).

C. Facing competition (much like the PS4 is now) 3 or so years into it's lifecycle with the release of brand new hardware (PS5, Xbox2).

Your talking about a product that must capture a wider mindshare, surpass the gigantic exposure and touch into a much wider casual market than the Wii ever even came close to doing.

Second point, are you expecting the Switch to draw away a large portion of the PS4 audience?

I think from Sony's perspective, most prospective Ps4 owners from this point are pretty much casual. I would ascertain that more or less all of the hardcore PS4 fans have already bought the console. In this respect,i guess those with limited expenditure would likely buy Switch or PS4, this overlap is where there will actually be competition in the market between the 2.

In my opinion the N64 was not just the best console of the 5th gen but, to this day the best console ever created!

Yeah ive been thinking the same thing and also wondering what the failure rate of the PS4 is, because i had bought 2 PS3s by this tme last gen and i actually had 4 PS2s in the lapse of 3 years, i guess the PRO is also there to incentivize people to double dip, it is becoming tempting for me since i wanna get a 4K in the near future.

Well if the PS4 is reliable, then no way is it getting PS2 like sales. Just conjecture,i know but i heard many a story that some bought multiple PS2's because of unreliability.

$300/gen for P2P online. Nintendo's given it away free for the last 10+ years while MS charged ~$600.

..you do know  switch will also be psp online..omg..

Yep for half the price with more utility.

A. Despite not being available, or as well advertised, packaged or localized in as many regions as the PS2. Meh.

B. Despite (and this ones pretty big), also actively competing against one of the highest selling consoles of all time (PS4). Switch isn't competing with PS4 but PS4 is competing with Switch.

C. Facing competition (much like the PS4 is now) 3 or so years into it's lifecycle with the release of brand new hardware (PS5, Xbox2). XB2/PS5 are no threat to Switch.

Second point, are you expecting the Switch to draw away a large portion of the PS4 audience? When 3rd parties get their shit together, Switch will be acting as a portable PS4/XB1/PS3/360. DS and Wii managed a healthy coexistance but that was when each had distinct advantages.

Klaudy said it's wishful thinking for Switch to sell tens of millions. I wasn't saying it would sell tens of millions more than PS4. It's too early to say how much Switch will outsell PS4 by.

Soo what " more" will the subscription  service  for  the switch has besides   free  nes en snes games you can't  even play after the month is Over?

Also and this  one made  me laugh  soo hard.

Why would  the ps4 be competing  against  the switch  if it has a 50-55mill lead over it?

Doesn't  make sense

Your  hyping this system  waaay to high.

This is a retaliation thread.

It's a fact bringing thread and lately amazon hourly has become a legitimate talking point round here.

Amazon has never been a good measure of anything, have we all completely abandoned the baby seals?!

So let me get this straight we have a console that is still lagging behind the PS4 if we align launches. The PS4 did release in the holidays, but it didn't release worldwide. Yet it seems some users are already sure the PS4 is on decline, while it's pretty much flat yoy. But the Switch is already destined to outsell this console and apparently is becoming the best selling console of all time. When we look at the raw data PS4 is on the trajectory to sell 16-18 milion in 2017. Yet Nintendo's current plan is to produce 18 million Switches by March 31st 2018 and is competing with apple for parts. So in what way is the Switch already destroying the PS4 while it still selling 185k in a slow week without a major release. Even looking at a very indicative hourly chart the best selling SKU is PS4 Uncharted bundle at place 15. With 4 games of PS4 in the top 20 and 3 Switch games in the top 20. The rest being PSN cards and controllers. The best selling Switch being the legend of Zelda instead of Mario Kart 8 deluxe (surprisingly). While Tekken 7 is the best selling game on place 3 behind two PSN cards.

So the simple conslusion
There is still a huge demand for a homeconsole and the PS4 doesn't seem to be selling any worse because the Switch has released or is in any way starting to show to become irrelevant. It's doing fine and so is the Switch since it's probably still restricted by shipments.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

I'd say the transition from PS3 to PS4 went smoothly enough for Sony as far as upgrading goes, despite many people having written Sony off beforehand because they fail to appreciate the power of the brand. Besides, this time Sony will likely go into the next transition as the leader, so it shouldn't lead to significant amounts of platform hopping.

As for your other point, that's a pretty big "if" you're basing it on. The user bases should have to be reversed pretty much, because third parties know their math. Also, portability will always have its limits because stationary is the way to go if you truly want to immerse yourself or play competitively, instead of just killing time with your small screen and limited specs while commuting.

They compete for different markets really, there will only be a small overlap. Although it's really impressive that the Switch can sell these numbers with virtually zero major third party support.
