Some say that Capcom never wanted to leave the PS2-low definition framework, so they just kept releasing the game on the same "engine" again and again on deprecated Nintendo consoles like Wii, Wii U and 3DS.

That's an easy way to make money.

That seems to be the case; they'll do anything it seems to avoid making that generational leap above 6th gen tier graphics, and that's a real shame because the series deserves better.

It's a real idiotic move too.  They will throw a fortune at Resident Evil games despite the franchise's up and down nature but refuse to give big backing to the most consistently powerful franchise they own.

I reckon they refuse because it sells anyway.

Nintendo console owners just pay for it. This is easy money for them. They not only release the game like that but they keep releasing aditional content as new games instead of DLC and the fans just buy them.

They don't need to change this strategy, because it's working very well.

God bless You.

My Total Sales prediction for PS4 by the end of 2021: 110m+

When PS4 will hit 100m consoles sold: Before Christmas 2019

If that's their reasoning, they are even dumber than I thought.  I firmly believe they are missing out on 1 to 3 million more sales per game by being so cheap.  This franchise has a ton of potential for sales in the west but not trapped on a handheld.

Pretty much, they are being cheap and lazy and putting in the absolute bare minimum of effort because they can get away with it.

I agree with Nuvendil though, the series has the potential to really take off in West if they make a new Switch entry with that doesn't look like a remnant of the PS2 era.

That was kinda my point; 3DS is just too limited to do the series justice. Whether its Nintendo's fault, or Capcom's, or both, the end result is that it just looks really horrible by modern standards.

Some say that Capcom never wanted to leave the PS2-low definition framework, so they just kept releasing the game on the same "engine" again and again on deprecated Nintendo consoles like Wii, Wii U and 3DS.

I wouldn't say that was the only reason. They made graphically enhanced versions of some of the PSP games on the PS3 and even have the Frontier series on PC and other higher end devices but those were not nearly as popular as the handheld entries. The big draw for Monster Hunter was when it left home consoles it was easy for people to play with each other without internet connection. They have been mining on that portable nature for a while similar to how Pokemon, the Mega Man Battle Network games, Yokai Watch and a number of Japanese franchises have done.

It is more cost effective to reuse and push out games using the same engine since MH 3 but I don't believe we can say it is all greed that drove those decisions, the market of MH is focused in Japan. Japan is hand held country with Nintendo devices as the undisputed king. Much like Pokemon, a Switch based MH is likely in the cards but they can't cook a new working engine on the fly.

No more outdated graphics. MHW is coming :)

The rumor going around is Sony bought Monster Hunter 5, but Switch is getting a continuation of the MH Portable series. Normally I don't buy into that stuff but the guy called Monster Hunter XX for 3DS and Switch apparently.

I do believe that rumor was torpedoed ages ago.  And I highly doubt such a deal would ever happen.  MonHun is firmly entrenched in the handheld space in Japan right now, Capcom wouldn't risk tying it to a home console.

Yes the would do such a thing.  And they'll likely keep making them for handheld too.  best of both worlds.

Those graphics would have been acceptable on Switch but on PS4, Xbox, and PC? Fuck no. It looks outdated as fuck and is still running MT Framework which is a last gen engine by now, Capcom can fuck right off if they want to advertise that as something acceptable on more powerful consoles and especially on PC.

Yeah, unless i'm missing something MHW should run on the NS so leaving it out seems to be business decision from Capcom.

I don't mind it not being on Switch, I'm more pissed at how shitty it looks on PS4 Xbox and PC when we have already seen things that look way way better at a much larger scale, maybe I'm stuck in the past where MH games pushed the hardware, this is clearly not it.
