Can't wait for the update :)

Also as much as people like to say it matters, a holiday launch does not matter. A launch is going to sell out of the hardware regardless and it's all about supply and demand. Vita pretty much struggled until it started doing well in JP, and even then it still never took off. 3DS, XBO, and Wii U all share a similar story. They all did very well in the early launch window (IMO launch window is the first 3 months of sell), but fell off a cliff by their start of their 3rd month (Wii U fell into a bottomless pit). 3DS and XBO sales jumped when they had their price drops, Wii U could have done the same, but Nintendo refused to take another loss or break even on sales. The 3DS vs PS4 vs Switch, will be the only interesting sales comparison, unless Switch suffers from the same nose dive in sales (which I won't happen due to Mario Kart releasing). Based on sales now, PS4 is going to lead against the Switch: *NA PS4 will do better in the long-term while Switch has small victories here and there in anticipation for big releases. *EU PS4 will dominate like it's been doing already. *JP Switch will dominate like it's been doing. *RoW PS4 will likely dominate considering the PS3 beat not only 3DS, but Wii and squeezed a win against DS in RoW regions. The real battle for Switch is the 3DS. 3DS Year 1 was around 13.8m, thanks to the price drop from $250 down to $169. |
@italic: They did, but it did next to nothing in terms of sales. However, they where unwilling to make another pricecut because it was already bleeding money.
@bold: EU for PS4 and Japan for Switch is practically a given. But for NA, I wouldn't be so sure since it's still very supply constrained; I rather think it will be the other way around. As for RoW, while I think PS4 will win here, Switch being region free will certainly help it's sales there and will be a less dominant victory.

Hmm, this MK8-boost. An old port boosted the hardware that much. Well, and probably that Nintendo shipped more units.

Regardless MK8 launch, Switch was and still is very stock limited in most markets (espacily US and Japan).
Great sales, it will be interesting to see sales for May because we know Japan started to receive smaller shipments in May compared to April.

If japans sales scale globally then global shipments are going to be around the 150k mark starting the week after next.
Switch sales are really impressive outside off Christmas holiday season. Just hope they can maintain momentum. Needs more games like BOTW

Nintendo holding back units for splatoon launch
I hope it won't drop as hard. 170k would still be good and sufficient to build up supply for their next big launches. Especially if they continue to ramp up production in parallel

Yeah, think it's next big week won't be till ARMS releases, not because ARMS is selling sytems but because Nintendo is holding supply for it's release week. I still think at the Switch's worst it'll be around 150k, but I still see it staying at around 200k during May. Once we reach Splatoon 2's release it kick starts months of big game releases for the Switch during fall/holiday.
