Forums - Nintendo - Wii U port begging (on Switch)

The irony is most of the people begging for this shit were the same who attacked Sony and MS for doing the same thing for the X1 and PS4.

But yes, stop with the fucking port begging. Jesus Christ. You never saw anyone go "I want Super Mario Sunshine ported to Wii right now!" or "we dont need a new Smash game, Brawl was perfect. Lets just get a Brawl port for the Wii U." No, fuck that. Buy a Wii U if you want Wii U games. If I get a Switch I want new games, not games from 2012

Ah, the good ol' days. Back when you could improve a game's textures, models, resolution, frame-rate, add all the DLC, release it for less than full price, and still be "overpriced" and an "inexcusably lazy port" :p

Anyway, i don't personally have a problem with people asking for WiiU ports. They tend to be fairly low effort, and give new buyers a chance to play the games. Stuff like "we don't need a new [x], just a port" is silly though. Remasters are there to compliment your library, not be your library.

The problem with the Smash example is that if they make a remaster, when would it be fitting to make a new title and not have player burnout? I felt this risk with Mario Kart 8 Delux. When will I feel like I need a new Mario Kart? Maybe at the end of the generation... the worst time to release a Mario Kart title. I would rather a new Smash and a new Mario Kart than remakes that risk me burning out on the series before the new title arrives. Especially when games like Mario Strikers exists and had no new title during the last generation. Getting games like that out and new versions of Mario Kart and Smash would be much better than remakes of Mario Kart and Smash. I know what Nintendo did with Mario Kart was smart from a business standpoint, but I hope future portbegging and ports slow down significantly.

Smash was also ported to 3DS which makes the second half of your argument a moot point.

My problem with Smash having a new game instead of a port is simply because of all the work they'd have to do again, seeing as every new Smash changes the moveset of each character (Even if it's slightly) and all. It's obviously feasible, but I think it would take at least 2-3 years for that to come out. The best option imo is to make a new game, but using the last one as a base instead of starting from scratch again, that way it would come out faster. I certainly agree with Mario Kart though, I'd rather have a new one instead of MK8 Deluxe, but I understand why they did that (And the MK team was/is busy making ARMS, so that could be a reason for them to hold out on a new game). Also, I don't get the franchise fatigue bit because at least for me, I'm not going to buy a game that I already played to death again, so I can just ignore MK8 Deluxe and wait for the next game.

I'll port beg all I want. I missed out. Theres money in it. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is going to sell because of it.

Next: Skyward Sword please...and Bayonetta 1&2...and XCX.

I have no problem with ports, as long as they don't make tons of them. If it makes sense, why not? I wouldn't mind definitive editions of Hyrule Warriors or Smash for example, because I didn't play the former and I missed all of the DLC for the latter. Games like Yoshi's Wooly World or Super Mario Maker though don't make sense, because they've already been ported to the 3DS and it would be pretty redundant to port the same games twice instead of making sequels.

So Yoshi's Wooly World or Super Mario Maker don't make sense because they already were available on Wii U and 3DS but Hyrule Warriors or Smash make sense although they already were available on Wii U and 3DS?

Make up your mind.

As a gamer: I would have rather the Wii U did not exist. I know Wii U was essential as a stepping stone to Switch in console design, HD adoption, marketing, and consumer reaction; without the Wii U period, we may not have had the Switch as we know it; however, the Wii U was a failure on all accounts. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales in contrast to the Wii U debut is firm and undeniable proof that there were too many errors with Wii U's marketability. Even I was feeling lackluster and ghostly afraid for Nintendo's future in the months leading into its launch. The Wii U was also sadly the home to many titles like Mario Kart 8 that deserved an opportunity much more worthy of their gaming merit, to reach a much wider audience. Yes there will be ports, thankfully. And if there is enough definitive ports of Wii U's more high profile experiences, then I will gladly rid my living room entirely of the lost opportunity, and awkward eye-sore, that was the Wii U. Yes, I'm mad about it.

I'm fed up with all of this port begging. I bought my Wii U to play exclusives, it was not worth buying if you could skip it and play all those games regardless. Breath of the Wild on Switch should have never happened, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe should have never existed, end of story. People who skipped the Wii U do not deserve to play any Wii U game.

  • You could also skip the Wii and play all those Wii games later on Wii U.
  • You could also skip the GameCube and play all those GC games later on Wii.
  • You could also skip the DS and play all those DS games later on 3DS.
  • You could also skip the GBA and play all those GBA games later on DS.
  • You could also skip the PS2 and play all those PS2 games later on PS3 Fat.
  • You could also skip the PS1 and play all those PS1 games later on PS2 and many on PSP, Vita and PS3.
  • You could also skip the Xbox 360 and play many of those 360 games later on Xbox One.
  • You could also skip the Xbox and play many of those Xbox games later on Xbox 360.
Why is it that evil to offer some games of the previous system to buyers of a new system without backwards compatibility?

You had the advantage to play these games on Wii U a lot earlier. Nobody ever promised you that these games won't ever be playable on different hardware... no matter if that is done by hardware emulation (BC), port/remaster or software emulation.

Wouldn't mind replaying xenoblade chronicles x in handheld

For those who dont understand ports, they are less costly compared to new games and they increase profitability, especially when a console is doing well and missed out high expected numbers that did not come for the previous console. There are plenty of people last gen who were not multi-console owners. The Last of Us reached maximum sales which I believe was around 11 million + because of it. Mario Kart sold record numbers on the Wii, so it would be safe to assume with a new console that sells better than the last there would be a huge community of people who missed out who could be capitalized on for less money. This will not hinder future endeavors, because..again...its a port. The profitability of ports also help fund new games. Think about it.
