Forums - Nintendo - Maybe Nintendo Having Just 1 Mario Kart Title [MK8 Deluxe] for Switch is a Good Thing?

The next Mario Kart should just be called "Mario Kart S" and contain 20 years of Mario Kart. Every track and character and power up since 1992. No new stuff. Just a Mario Kart celebration.

Switch will get not only Mario Kart 9, it will also get versions of classic Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64 with new online modes.

Nintendo's big selling IP are 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Zelda, Fire Emblem, and Splatoon.

And Switch is already getting as many as 5 of those in year 1 ... they are going to need sellers for 2018, 2019, 2020, etc. Mario Kart can't be on the sidelines.

I'd be fine if they just gave MK8D another 16 DLC tracks. If Nintendo actually makes Mario Kart 9 for Switch, and it doesn't start off with at least 48 tracks, it'll feel like a step backward from 8.

Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's most important franchises and they'll want a new entry for the Switch. The system-selling potential of a new Mario Kart is simply too hard to ignore.

While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe looks like a great port and will be "new" to a lot of Switch owners, fans will want an entirely new game in a few years.

Lastly, I very much doubt that the future of F-Zero and Diddy Kong Racing (though they probably wouldn't release it the same year as Mario Kart) depends on whether or not Nintendo makes a new Mario Kart and if it does then those franchises are screwed because if forced to choose Nintendo won't pick F-Zero over Mario Kart 9.

I should correct that and say "free dlc." Wasn't the first dlc free for MK8?

The only free DLC was the 200C mode they added 1 year and half ago. The rest was paid DLC.

No courses were?

I agree. I'd much rather see "F-Zero ZX" and "Diddy 2" this round then another Mario Kart (this is coming from an MK obsessive).

I'd like to see other franchises get a shot and Mario Kart wait until they have enough new ideas to make MK9 fresh. It's going to be tough to top MK8.

With fact that Wii U had very limited instal base, that MK8D maybe even best and most completed MK game ever, point that will be available on MK8D on Switch already, Nintendo dont need to release MK8 on Switch, and instead they could release Diddy Kong Racing 2 and F-Zero that would definitely make Switch game offer much more diverse than MK9.

On other hand, Nintendo is very aware that MK is always huge seller, so they can also easily release MK9, but I dont see it before end of 2019. beacuse of MK8D.

I would personaly love Diddy Kong Racing 2 over MK9 when Switch already has MK8D.

We'll know pretty quickly whether or not Mario Kart 9 is planned. If it's not planned, I'd expect extensive DLC for Mario Kart 8 DX. The advantage of getting 8 DX out is that Nintendo have a guaranteed big seller (I'd guess 5 million LT as a minimum), plus a new IP in Arms, developed by the Kart team, in the first few months of Switch's life.

It'd be easy to make Mario Kart 9 for 2019 or perhaps 2020 using the Kart 8 engine on Switch, with clear performance improvements shown from 8 on Wii U to the Switch version, and get even greater benefits in a couple of years. That being said, I do wonder if expecting Mario Kart 9 is a little un-imaginative. I think we might end up seeing something like Super Smash Kart, or Nintendo All-Stars Racing, in 2019.

I would rather Nintendo to focus on other things than MK9

Pocky Lover Boy!

It's a great game that didn't get as much exposure on the Wii U. Fixing battle mode is the icing on the cake.
