Wrong, it is the 3DS successor - Nintendo won't be releasing another handheld.

It's combining Nintendo's handheld and console - why would it not need to sell as much as the 3DS + WiiU?

Your reasoning for it being a 3ds successor is because wont be releasing another HH? That reasoning contradicts itself you know right because in that case you can say the same for home console. WiiU support is done, 3ds is still going. Its priced more as a HC, games are more of that of a HC. I mean so many things poiny to it more.

And mainly it doesnt have to sell both combine to be successful. And it doesnt need to sell combine because its HC/HH. Thats not how it works. Its obvious your making the hardest goalpost, youve done it multiple times in the past

And that's why I'm saying it needs to match the sum of the numbers as it is both a handheld and a home console.

I've always said that Nintendo's hardware will become more and more irrelevant as time goes by - this generation will further the trend with them selling even less hardware. That's why WiiU + 3DS is the goal. But it wouldn't have trouble outselling those, right? Since it is such a success/beast according to people on this site.

This logic is wrong on many levels. First off its the wiiu successor before anything (even if you count it as a HH).

2nd it doesnt need to outsell wiiu/3ds together. People need to get this out of their heads seriously. There is more to it than this

Edit: god damn i just fell into a bottomless pit xD

Well it's not like the Wii U sold that much in Japan to begin with, lol.

Worst case scenario should be at least equal to the 3DS but that would mean that Nintendo's market has decreased even more.

Since you want to go that route itll have 100% of marketshare right?

And it doesnt need to match 3ds numbers. Especially when 3ds has multiple skus (5)

Yeah, 100% marketshare in a segment being eaten up by mobile.

And are you saying that the 3DS would have sold way less were it not for the SKUs?

Don't worry, Sony's current market is still far away from PS3+PSP (165M). Nintendo isn't the only one decreasing.

Well lets focus on Japan alone.... the picture is much darker.

Switch and Zelda are holding very well.
Really nice that Nier is also having good legs and is not free falling.

Well Golden week sales data are in two weeks so the sales we get next week could be affected by Golden week (or is what I expect). if so we can expect 25K switch 15k PS4 (with PRo) and people calling doom while the week after we have normally great sales.

Golden Week has mainly just been making up for the sales of the week prior, so you could be right. Still, 25k would be quite low.

That and fact that is holiday so more people buying new hardware and games to be able to play during that holiday.

Yes, Switch will be 3DS successor also (IMO real 3DS successor will be Switch Mini/Pocket), but 3DS is still very live and actualy its selling better than last year in Japan.

That isn't so simple, Switch doesn't need to sell 3DS+Wii U to be considered success, because Switch is still one console and Nintendo had costs just for one console, with 3DS and Wii U Nintendo had R&D costs for hardware and software for two platforms or two marketing costs also for two platforms. Actually that's reason why Nintendo merged their hardware and software divisions that before were separated on home console and handheld divisions, and why they went with Switch with one unified platform.

Of course that selling around 25m Switch consoles in Japan alone wouldn't be worst case scenario. People dont realise how huge succes 3DS is in Japan, its 3rd. best selling console in history of Japan, only GB/GBA and DS sold better.
