Forums - Gaming - Wait, DID Horizon First Week Global Sales Really Outpace BotW's? (PLEASE READ FIRST POST)

Which did you enjoy more?

Breath of the Wild 402 32.74%

Horizon: Zero Dawn 377 30.70%

I haven't played both yet/Unsure 286 23.29%

See Results 163 13.27%

Total:1,228

Bit too early to judge when you consider multiple factors.

- PS4 userbase in comparison to Wii U/ Switch
- Limited stock availability in regards to Breath of the Wild/ Switch
- Competition for Horizon on PS4

Make this comparison again in 12 Months time and you'll see a better reflection of where each will end up.

Considering zelda TP is in a very similar situation and BotW is beating it slightly and that game went and sold over 8.5mil lifetime

I changed the thread title to reflect my original intention of comparing first week sales.

Limited Wii U BOTW stock at launch. It sold out faster than the Switch version, and the Wii U is dead too.

None of that disqualifies what I said.  Especially when the game is also available digitally on Wii U for those who want it badly enough/prefer digital.

Newsflash: Most people aren't gonna buy BOTW digital with Wii U's crappy storage. Considering you only get about 25gb or so of that storage for actual games, that's about half your storage right there.

It does disqualify the substance of what you said.

I was wondering who changed it for more accuracy. I figured this thread was based on VGC's articles about first week sales.

I felt it was originally implicit that it was first week sales, but being more specific doesn't hurt.

It disqualifies it for you maybe.  Fact is that there are 16 or so million machines out there that can play BotW.  You can deduct style points if you want, but facts are facts.

It doesn't matter when other factors get involved that make your statement worthless.

I'm curious, is competition in the PS4 that big when it comes to sales? Realistically, I wouldn't buy new games at $60 within 2-3 weeks from each other, or even buy both at $60. I know some have money and can spend it however they like, but not everyone does. I bought BoTW but I'm not planning to buy other games at $60+tax full price for some time due to budget. I'll eventually try HZD and Nier, but do I have to buy them right away and both at full price? I don't have to. I see some wait a month or a month and a half before getting games if they are still at full price (and they usually are unless you can find a good deal or find them used). Just a personal thought.

Otherwise both BoTW and HZD are well received and are selling well so far. This is great for the industry. You got a great attempt at a new IP by a solid studio who's never tackled the open world genre before and you got one of the highest reviewed games of all-time by a highly acclaimed team that decided to go back to its roots and redefine one of the most respected and beloved franchises this industry has to offer.

So very testy.  Those other factors don't exist as a constant for everyone.  I say this of course as one of the people you discount who bought BotW digitally on my Wii U.  But hey, don't let things like an option for external HD storage or constantly increasing digital sales deter you from trying to say a factual statement is worthless.  You can continue to cherry pick a factual statement for your personal reasons, but it doesn't make what I said any less correct and factual.

No offense but going by japan/uk sales threads, the fanbase/gamers want to play it on the attractive new hardware than the dead one. I mean look at persona5 in UK. Only 3% got it on ps3 despite a bigget user base than ps4
