You can play Switch home on the TV or you can take it with you on the go. Whether you decide to label it as a home console, a handheld or a hybrid, doesn't change what it is...

Well iphone also has a gaming controller and you can also play it on tv. What does it make an iphone then?

The Switch is 1/6 and 1/8th the power of the Pro and Scorpio. Thats quite a lot, especially since this is a 9th gen console (or so I assume).

And both are inferior to the PC. Why does it matter? People will still play on the system they prefer. I like what the switch is doing. It seperates itself from it's competition and offers something new.

Ok. We know that you're pissed off but ...

The Switch is still a home console/hybrid as much as you want to discredit it that way.

No it is not

“Simple minds have always confused great honesty with great rudeness.” - Sherlock Holmes, Elementary (2013).

"Did you guys expected some actual rational fact-based reasoning? ...you should already know I'm all about BS and fraudulence." - FunFan, VGchartz (2016)

It just falls into to many categories to be called just one or the other, I think it just needs to classed as a hybrid.

Just for your first point, it's not that Nintendo can't compete with Sony or Microsoft, they just can't outsell them if they make a home console a la X1/PS4, they're competing with something different.

Also, in-terms of power you can look at it from a completely different point of view. Before the Switch, the most powerful handheld was the Vita. The Switch is capable of running much much more graphically-demanding games (See Breath of the Wild/Mario Odyssey), so if the Switch is 1/3rd or so of the X1 then surely it's closer to a home console? Or what people do/should call it: A hybrid.

What do you mean? The Wii U was a home console, so its in competition with Xbox and Playstation. If they can't get 3rd parties, than it can't sell, and ultimately if falls behind. The Xbox is already 2:1, and PS4 almost 4:1. So no, it wasn't able to compete with Xbox or Playstation. As for your second point, its a NINTH GEN CONSOLE! Mobile HW has advanced significantly since 2011, so games running ont the Wii U SHOULD run on this console. I can't imagine if that wasn't the case.

Whether you like it or not, this is being marketed as a home console experience you can take on the go, just because you can *gasp* take it on the go, doesn't mean it's not a home console anymore, a home console doesn't strictly have to be a powerful box that connects to your TV. 3rd parties in-general also aren't strictly the big AAA power-hungry western studios, the Japanese 3rd parties, who don't typically put graphics first, will likely flock to the Switch, much like the 3DS and the Vita, the latter getting a lot of the same games as the PS4 did. I doubt you will see many AAA western games unless the Switch becomes so sucessful they're willing to drop a load of money to port it, but you'll see a boatload of Japanese support.

As for your latter arguments, yes, mobile HW has naturally evolved since then, but do you really think ANY company can put out a portable PS4 that is affordable, doesn't generate a lot of heat to melt it and can sustain a bearable battery life? It's simply impossible for any company to do that, especially back when the Switch started development a few years back. Further more, it's certainly more powerful than the Wii U, gigaflops aren't the end all-be all numbers that determine what it can't and cannot do. Heck, power doesn't even determine the sucess of a console anyways, just like it doesn't determine if it's a home console or not. If you want a beefcake of a console, just go buy a PS4/X1, you already have 2 options to choose from if you're looking only for that.

Effectively you're probably right, it's unlikely looking at it today that a lot of people but the really core Nintendo fans (the ones that bought a Wii U) would use this as their primary home console.

It's a portable system first IMO, Nintendo is trying their hardest to market it the other way because they want to sell a few more 3DS systems for another year, especially since 3DS has DQXI coming and the sysem is fairly expensive to start with so trying to position it more as a home device initially makes more sense from a pricing POV.

Nintendo lost the home console market a long time ago, this is just portable taking over their hardware business, which makes sense. 85% of Nintendo buyers last gen didn't want a Nintendo console. Same goes for the GCN-GBA era. Wii era is the only outlier because a controller craze that's impossible to repeat so it doesn't really do Nintendo a whole lot of good in 2017.

So what you're saying to defend your mobile HW aspect is that it can't handle PS4 like HW because of problems that're related to handheld consoles. Hmm...

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Yep I agree with you barney. It's basically a succesor to the Vita. It's what it would have been.
