Forums - Nintendo - The Nintendo Switch and a New IP Renaissance

Nintendo sure has done well with trying to get new IP out, but personally I feel it is lacking something.

Call me crazy or whatever but I really wish they fund a new adult only game and even make their own range of sports games (that don't have mario skin on them) or somehow get 2K onboard 100%.

Withut these i just feel that every gen for Nintendo will get smaller and smaller, as their other IPs are so catered to a Nintendo only game. Some of us Nintendo gamers like other games too. At my age I honestly CBF owning multiple consoles anymore as don't have much spare time. I just want to be able to play on one system as much as I can. Multi consoles were cool when you had time but its a hassle having 2-3 setup making sure all controllers are charged, making sure there is HDMI for each etc.

Hm, you might be right on this actually. I think there's definitely a big focus on new IP at Nintendo when compared to what it used to be, but personally I still wish they give us plenty of awesome stuff from what they already have.

In other words, having a new IP every one or two years is great and all, but just give me some fucking Metroid already. 2D or 3D, I don't care. Both, if possible. But come on.

Not to be rude or anything, but no one cares for Metroid.

Not to be rude or anything, but the lack of a proper Metroid was about all that was talked about at E3 2015.

There is a fanbase that is chomping at the bit for a new game. I know several individuals who never bought the Wii U with the expressed reason that their was never a Metroid Prime 4 in HD on the platform. I am one of the fans who had faith this would happen an bought into the Wii U earlier, before Nintendo brought the hammer down and diverted all resources away from it.

Amazing thread! I love reading your perspective one it! There were news or rumors how some Wii U games were moved to the Switch. I think that allowed them to have more time to do other things. They probably just need to finish making the game + implement the portable part into it. Can't really comment on this...... cause I dont even know what part of Nintendo makes what games.

And I feel like after Splatoon, Nintendo saw or realize something. And how I think they are trying to re create that magic in Arms.
- Colourful Visuals
- Heavily focused on multiplayer
- The characters have 1 thing in common (Splatoon = Squids + Kids / Arms = Extendable Arms + Robots/humans)
- Interesting controls (Splatoon = Gyroscope / Arms = Motion controls ) Both can also use a normal controller.

But we'll see if that magic strikes again. Splatoon is a shooter genre while Arms is Fighting...... One is definitely more popular than the other.

I actually don't think Arms is a response to Splatoon. I think this has been in the oven for a while.

I think you brought up some interesting points, but I still think nintendo is doing less than they should on this area. They got to keep the wii u for their own for the most part, and the third party lineup for switch isn't really looking any better thus far. I don't get why nintendo isn't interested in expanding their studios to be able to make more games. Where is 1080 and waverace for example? Splatoon, xenoblade and arms are greatly appreciated, but why not tap into a western rpg, maybe a more realistic type shooter. No one else is giving us them on nintendo consoles, I really doubt nintendo wouldn't be able to make these break even as well. More variety is sorely needed.

I also don't think they're pushing the xenoblade franchise nearly as much as they should. Monolith soft are gods, truly.

Nintendo not making western IP is a separate issue entirely, and one I agree with you on. There isn't a need for 1080 or Waverace, though.

Lol, what?

Every person I've tried talking to in real life either:

a) Doesn't know what Metroid is

b) Forgot all about it

c) Asks if it is a new type of droid coming out

I seriously don't see how it's possible when everyone in the internet demands a Metroid game. Where do all these people live? I never see anyone talk about Metroid. I'd love to have a person to talk about Metroid with

I don't know anyone in real life who cares about Xenoblade, either. Doesn't mean people don't.

They should have bought studios during the Wii-DS era, when they had money and a massive userbase. How easy could have been to put those new devs to work on A-AA games for the Wii-DS while getting experience, so when the WiiU-3DS came out, they had enough manpower to try and close the software droughts?

Very true. I think it was harder to see the need at the time though, with them having lots of 3rd party support at the time. Just sad to see that they don't seem to be doing anything about this. They botched the messaging on the wii u, but what killed it was the lack of games.

Should be AT LEAST one bigger scale nintendo every month imo.

That's incredibly unrealistic.

I don't agree with what you have said about Mario Kart.

I feel like people have said something similar, that all they could do in the future is add more tracks, a few times before. And if they just did that, we probably wouldn't have had the changing gravity mechanic. I would be disappointed if Mario Kart became more of a service on each console, and I would much rather have an all new game, with a fresh new mechanic or spin on the formula, with 12-16 brand new tracks and a similar amount of older tracks altered with the new mechanic in mind.

I do however agree with what you have said about ARMS. After initially being far from impressed, the game has grown on me the more I have seen it. It has a nice style, and if it has enough variation in characters, arenas and game modes it could be Nintendo's next multiplayer hit

I meant bigger scale as in not eshop game. To expect at least one retail game a month isn't too much IMO.

In case you though I meant a game at zeldas size every month I'll have to excuse myself, I worded it a bit poor.

I basically agree with this

Nintendo does seem to be moving in the right direction and really wants to get back their core fans and gamers that just like Nintendo games

I am optimistic with their future games, but I am also a bit hesitant because they still are making some odd choices that worry me a bit.

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Meh i can live without nintendo new ip. Id rather have nintendo working on their old & famous franchise. Nintendo should just invest more on 3rd party developers (like what they did for platinum games) and let them do the new exclusive for nintendo.
