Forums - Nintendo - Switch: 8 accounts on a system, choose region at account creation, game cards read-only (Kotaku)

The famous Nintendo double dick move. Would suck though when you're on the move and have no internet and can't login to the other account.

Why would you need internet to log in to the other account? Switch isn't always online or something is it?

I'll let Nintendo figure that out. They're the best at inventing unnecessary hassles for consumers.

Selecting your region makes sense, but I do hope that you can change it in between without negative results :/

Read only cards would be a bit annoying, but not too bad as long as there are ways to recover save files if anything happens to the system

I don't have much of a problem with the storage solution but cloud-saving really needs to be included with the subscription.  That seems like a no-brainer, especially for a handheld/dock system.  Handheld portion gets damaged or stolen, you should be able to replace that part and re-download your saved games.

Yeah that totally depends on how Nintendo wants to run it. They could have profiles locally encrypted/stored, or it could require a connection. That decision could have more impacts than originally stated. We shall see!

Even 3DS cards couldn't save DLC. To enable cards to be overwritten with patches and DLC would require the cards to be rewritable, which would make them way more expensive than the read-only cards Nintendo has been using in their portables.

well yer but this is 2017 tech improves. think outside the square. it would have been a selling point for gamers.

Yeah, "tech improves", but that doesn't change the fact that rewriteable cards are a lot more expensive then read-only cards. Implementing your idea would mean increasing the cost of producing Switch game cards, which means physical games would be more expensive for consumers to purchase.

would it though? if you suddenly making millions of these thing surely the cost go down. Not saying they wll be cheap as ROM but surely cheap enough.

With the 3DS games ranged in size from 128MB (1Gb) to 4GB (32Gb) with most games at the lower end of those 2 values. wii u from 100mb to about 20GB but most again at the lower end of those 2 values with 1-3GB being typical. Switch has a maximum 16GB (128Gb) cartridge size I believe for launch but most will be much smaller. The new Bomberman game looks like something that could be achieved with a 256MB (2Gb) cartridge size. 1-2 Switch is probably a tiny cartridge as probably is ARMS. It's only the big impressive games that will need large cartridges. Mario 3D world on wii u was only 1.6GB and they'll probably fit Mario Odyssey onto a 4GB (32Gb) cartridge.

The 32GB main memory is actually quite reasonable and if you add a cheap 64GB microsd card you'll probably be covered for a wide range of downloaded games.

32GB was okay for the WiiU, should be enough for a portable WiiU.
64GB is starting to be the default storage option for premium smartphones.

Good to hear that the save file and download can be seperated, lost my Splatoon progress due to a corrupt USB.

Just checked the Nintendo account and you can change your location easily there.
Can it be that easy to change eShop? Guess not.

I see why people are questioning the internal memory of 32 Gb, but remember that Switch games won´t require installation. That internal memory should be enough for DLCs and updates.

So, it doesn't allow external hard drives at launch?

Nope also this was known for along time.

It makes sense too, you want to be able to use it as a console and then remove it, and keep playing your game.

That cant happend if your HDD is hooked up to the dock, and the game is on the HDD.

*if* they allow external hard drives, they might not allow you to play games off of it.

You would just need to select which titles you can take on the go and which you can play at home with the dock.
A simple data management app can do it.
