Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Kimishima really the man to put Nintendo back together?

That was Nintendos job to inform people on whats coming. The damn thing launches in like 40 days FFS. They could barely give us any launch dates and they gave us nothing about the OS or VC.

Switch will have droughts for many of us that are not very interested in WiiU ports.

If Nintendo had covered everything, you would have complained that the presentation is too long and had too many portions that were not about games.

Sucks for you Wii U owners. Nobody should feel sorry for you.

No I wouldnt. I like getting information on stuff I like.

It does suck for us WiiU gamers since we have already played Mario Kart 8, Rayman Legends, Lego City Undercover and that expansion pack they are trying to pass off as Splatoon 2.

Luckily there are less than 14 million of you, so the rest of the general public hasn't played those games.

Well maybe there will be mostly new gamers that buy the Switch. Then they can just stop making new games and port NES-WiiU games instead.

Has it been lost on all of you that Nintendo is clearly positioning Koizumi to become the new president? Kimishima is obviously just an interim. That's absolutely clear now after this press conference.

Back in 2006, both Wii and DS each offered more than enough games to satisfy on their own. The Switch, which has the dev capacity of both, but after years of prep has only a handful of games to show, and no killer app (Zelda doesn't count since it is on Wii U as well).

You are misremembering things. The Wii launched with twilight princess as its sole high profile game. Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn are what held the Wii together in 2007.

The lineup for the Switch looks much better.

And initially, before the DS became the best selling thing of the previous generation, it got off to a slow start around the time it launched in 2004-05. Plus the launch (or day 1) lineup of the DS wasn't the most stellar (like most launches). By '06, the Lite happened and there were a better lineup but that was 2-3 years in.

He strikes me as a suit, no personality, no charisma, no passion. In years down the road, he might opt for more industry standard hardware and practices (as we've seen with paid online), he certainly doesn't seem like an "innovator" but all that "innovating" hasn't done much for Nintendo recently. The Wii U being discarded quickly and the Switch receiving relatively lukewarm impressions (not overwhelmingly bad, not overwhelmingly good)

I agree he doesn't really strike me as a particularily visionary type of leader. Maybe though that can sometimes be a good thing.

They shouldn't be grooming Koizumi. For starters Nintendo needs him to lead their software development for the next 20 years. Beyond that why should a game designer be president?

Hire a strong business man to run a business. Let the game developers make games, they two shouldn't intersect IMO. Too many conflicts arise.

Nope. He is as delusional as Iwata was. Well... maybe not as delusional. Either way whoever is in charge of Nintendo needs to realize that the western market is far bigger than ever and Japanese games are considered niche now. Switch is Iwata's legacy so we won't know for sure until the next console (if there is one) before we really see Kimishima's vision on console hardware.

To me its actually the legacy of Gunpei Yokoi that is harming Nintendo now more than ever. Iwata embraced it when he made Wii with weak hardware and put in a new control scheme. He followed it up with Wii U, 3DS, and Switch and that is why we're looking at weak hardware with gimmicky controls.

I think that Gunpei Yokoi would have changed his philosophy after seeing how fast technology is evolving every year, vs how it was back in the 80s.

You've got to be kidding. The Wii launched with 33 games during its first month, 21 of those available at launch day. Wii Sports, a killer app, packed in with the console. Dozens more announced for the first year, including Super Mario Galaxy, one of the greatest games of all time. CONSTANT announcements leading up to the launch. The gravity of the titles was enough to keep the Wii instantly flying off store shelves  for more than two years straight, and holiday seasons after.

Now with the Switch. No killer app since anyone can get it on Wii U instead. There's only 3 other games at launch, and no more in the first month. Just 20 more for the next YEAR. Very few people are excited about this state of affairs, no new fans are coming in. The biggest game by far is Zelda which, as mentioned, is already available to anyone who has a Wii U. There's nothing else to look forward to unless you want to look forward to a very humdrum looking jrpg with the Xenoblade title slapped on, and an uninspiring Mario game that looks like Mario the Hedgehog 2006, and don't compare this one to galaxy, Galaxy this one ain't, not all Mario games are made equal.

Nintendo has done a piss poor job with the the software, it is not convincing any new gamers to jump on the Nintendo wagon. It's certainly not convincing any 3DS users to shell the 350 euros to upgrade. There's no need to upgrade Wii U either since those users can already buy the game they want. Anyone who thinks this one has a leg up on the Wii is delusional.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

The Switch has solid 1st party support, but the 2nd and 3rd party support is abyssmal.
