They shouldn't be grooming Koizumi. For starters Nintendo needs him to lead their software development for the next 20 years. Beyond that why should a game designer be president?
Hire a strong business man to run a business. Let the game developers make games, they two shouldn't intersect IMO. Too many conflicts arise.
