Doesn't matter. It would have been a direct appeal to the core gamer who wouldn't look at Wii U. Nintendo needed that if they are going to sell a $300 tablet with $60 games.

Metroid struggles to make it to 1m sales, it's not a core franchise it's a niche title with a cult following always has been always will be, core players never look at it because it requires a specific taste to get into. If you think Metroid would gain attention from players who never got the Wii U then you're kidding yourself hard.

Its not a niche franchise. Its just not as popular as some of Nintendos other franchises.

This is where it will fail and Nintendo will be forced to cut the price for the holidays.
Can't believe they will charge for online while also selling the console for a profit. Online fees make up for selling the console at a loss which also helps move units and leads to more software -_-

I don't think I am. Metroid would have definitely stirred that cult following. It also would have played well with the gaming press and that is a victory no matter how it is looked at. Perception rules and if they included Metroid, it would have had the perception of being there for core gamers.

You are mate you know why? Because one the majority of Metroid fans are one the Wii U it's a game that has no real alternative anywhere else and the reason for that is because it's ultra niche and two the niche nature of the serie's appeal has little to no impact on perception of any platform, it's in the same boat as games like Ico, praised by forum goers but ignored by everyone else from cores to casuals, so yes you're kidding yourself hard on this one.

Will definitely be interesting to see if a couple of Wii U ports can carry a system with so much going against until the first original non-motion control gimmick Nintendo game releases. :L

Games games games! People need to jump in Splatoon! It did 1.7mil in Japan, while probably 4mil+ WW. This time it can also be played in portable mode! I expect a huge increase especially in Japan!

Yeah tbh I think Nintendo is banking more on the holiday period than the launch, XCX's more artisitic approach may also be as much of an attempt to increase eastern appeal as well as a nod to Zelda changing approaches for diversity. Splatoon 2 is going tear up Japan, I do want to see more of Square's game though.

It's niche, scraping past 1m after 4 years doesn't change that.

Remember the impact MK8 had on the Wii U? With Zelda and that I feel like momentum will be steady. When Splatoon 2 hits and E3, you can bet it'll sell more than 4m.

The summer will def be important for the switch... because E3 is their chance to keep a momentum going for the system by showing off even more games. If they can show off even more games coming for the system, I think it could build confidence for it.

Not every franchise that doesnt sell many millions are niche. That word is way overused. Whats niche about a bounty hunter in an action platformer shooting aliens?
