If their pricing on hardware wasn't So Apple like, I wouldn't want them to go third party. Everything from the console, down to the grip charger, Nintendo pushes the envelope when it comes to drawing blood from a stone.

I'd rather Nintendo go 3rd party because of this. I grew up with Nintendo making great games without gimmicks and extorting customers on accessories and since they can no longer do this and I'm not willing to pay the price for their hardware.

However, someone raised a very good question here whether Nintendo is capable of making games on other platforms with higher performance. Yes, I know they can, but will they be able to compete with Other AAA studios and their graphic output.

The Switch is speaking to lots of gamers by providing continuous play wherever you go! I would much rather have this as a gaming option than just another console trying to emulate what PC's can already do. Neither Sony or Microsoft would have created something like the Switch, it's okay having a variety of choices...

After this Zelda and Switch!
nope for another generation at least!

Switch!!!

As others had said it's a nice idea but ultimately it would pretty much kill of innovation in console gaming.

It's very rare for an organisation of nintendo's size to sacrifice the potential of huge profits to maintain a strategy of innovation. I welcome it - leave the raw power race to everyone else.

And after 1,5 millions of Switchs sold, Nintendo should go 3rd party? I don't think so

An arms race always leads to destruction of one or all involved. Much better for Nintendo to keep its head above water and wait for the inevitable ps/xbox slump where all the minor/indie developers can't keep up with the big boys (Ea,ubi). Some off the most successful franchises so far could run on a toaster ( Minecraft, Rocket league etc).

Production was just increased from 8 million to 16 million during the next fiscal year.

But, 3rd party and all that.

doesn't mean those will be sold quickly though.

There is absolutely no indication right now that the Switch will be as successful as the Wii or even the 3ds.

I think Nintendo is just trying to bet on its success, this is just PR, projecting confidence.

The WiiU was produced at 10 millions the first year, and they spent 3 years selling those 10 millions. So well...

Wii U was not doubled after initial launch, that was iniital production based on Wii.  And you don't just bet on success (doubling production) without reason.

So well...

"WiiU was not doubled after launch"

That wasn't my point, my point was that producing more doesn't equal selling more. For all we know those 8 millions could very well be plenty enough.

It's a bet, like they bet the WiiU would sold 10 millions in a year.

At this point that's just a projection.  Nintendo repeatedly over projected Wii U sales.
