People have been shitting on Nintendo's online services for a decade now and saying it needs to keep up with the Jones'. Now that it is doing just that, people are whining about it.

Don't get me wrong, I'd take the free services that are subpar to the level of PSN/XBL anyday, but if you want better, you usually have to pay for it.

Really? At least do what Sony did! Improve your service, then charge for it!

This.  And is Nintendo going to offer the same benefits for their service?  At least 2 free games every month and deep discounts from flash sales?  Kinda doubt it.

I truly don't see how people think this will bomb. Unless everything we've heard is wrong, portable games will be on the Switch as well, yes? Do we really think a system with consistent mainline Pokemon titles is going to bomb? Not to mention other big series such as Monster Hunter, Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, etc.

Switch will be fine. Presentation's disappointing, paid online sucks, and chances are it won't sell great at launch, but over the long haul it'll be fine from a sales standpoint.

The Wii U bombed because of momentum. People forget things very easily, but before the PS4 and XBO, the Wii U was one of the fastest selling systems of all time. It outsold the PS3 and 360 for half a year.

There are 2 real negatives we can bring up: price and launch line up. Like I've said before, Nintendo's market lies on the $200-<$299 range. This, I'm very dissapointed with and even a little nervous about.

The launch is difficult to tell. BotW is being incredibly well received. It might be enough with it alone for launch (it's a really long game), plus, MK is coming just one month later, and a few months after that is Spl2n. But it's hard to ignore how, overall, really bad the launch line up is.

But again, console sales are a marathon, not a race. It's a long road ahead, dont use all your energy at the beginning.

Launch titles may not necessarily be a big, big issue. Not a lot of the previous consoles launched with a stellar library day 1. Plus BoTW's the most highly anticipated Nintendo game in a while so that can go up there with Mario 64 for example. It's a long term investment and Nintendo is gonna have to buckle down and make sure they continue releasing games throughout the Switch's life cycle. I mean did you really buy a PS4 for the launch titles alone? I thought most bought due to the promises of more coming down the pipeline? And the DS didn't have a stellar launch up lineup either but we all know how that ended up (not saying the switch will be the DS).

Not at $300 it doesn't.  People didn't want to pay $249 for a 3DS or Vita, they sure as heck aren't going to want to pay $299 for this.  Personally, I see another Wii U here.  Things may improve if Nintendo goes the 3DS route and slash $80 off the price tag a few months out.  But, if they are stubborn like they were with the Wii U's price, then they can forget about it.  Mobile may be Nintendo's future if they decide they don't want to put any games on the PS4/XBO.

Yeah, at this price I don't think Switch will do well. I'm getting a serious Wii U vibe from the excessive price and small amount of games.

Except it has alot less features that make the price worth it.

Also you dont get to own the game you get from the month, its just playable for free that month.

You want voice chat? go download the app for your smart phone, log in via the app, and use your phone to talk to other gamers your playing with.

you heard me..... use your phone.... for voice chat in games.

Thats nintendos solution.

Like wtf?

Man dude you're in full hate mode dude. Listen to the shit you're saying it doesn't even make sense.

"Also you dont get to own the game you get from the month, its just playable for free that month."

And you don't own the game you play on Playstation either, it's locked behind DRM. You have to pay every month to keep playing it.

"Except it has alot less features that make the price worth it."

We don't know the price though?????????

"You want voice chat? go download the app for your smart phone, log in via the app, and use your phone to talk to other gamers your playing with.

Pretty sure that's for the mobile component dude...

NO, you're the one not making sense.  How is playing a game for ONE month even comparable to playing it whenever you want as long as you continue with your subscription?  It's not.  And are they giving 2 games or just one?  Are they offering deep discounts on games, like 60%-90% off, that you do get to keep for forever?  If not, then Nintendo is ripping gamers off.  If you think people are going to except anything less than what has become the standard for online gaming on consoles, you are being quite naive. And voice chat through your phone?  What are gamers even paying for?

And sure, we don't know the price, but it looks like with the Switch, Nintendo is looking to charge a premium for products that aren't that premium.  $299 for a $199 Nvidia Shield with a 720p screen?  Even if it cost $150 to make a Shield, it doesn't cost $150 for a screen.  $70 for a Pro controller?  When Sony and MS are charging $60 or less?  Joycons for $80?  There's no way the those controllers cost anywhere near that to make.  $90 for a dock that just charges the console and plugs it to your TV?  Again, nowhere near that price.  Nintendo seems to be trying to price gouge its diehard fans that will buy a Nintendo system, no matter what.

I agree. Which is probably why we should have gotten clarification. Don't know where I said I don't agree with any of  that...but...ok???

"And voice chat through your phone?  What are gamers even paying for?"

Pretty sure that is just an option for mobile gaming, but you know what if that ends up being the only voice chat available i'll be the first to complain about it. Don't pin this shit on me, we're just guessing here. I'm not defending that practice, if that's what they're doing it's stupid. I think it's just so vaguely worded that there's a possibility there IS voice chat in the console. If there isn't, than I honestly don't think people are going to be willing to pay for the service(and that I'd agree with).

Um...okay??? Don't r emember defending any of that. Ya, that's pretty shitty. I'm not going to buy one day one anymore. This is the vita all over again, if nintendo came out and said the SD card were propriotary i wouldn't even be surprised. It's ridiculous that a console that is half portable and half home console is getting such expensive accessories when most of these accessories  shouldn't cost that much. I remember wanting a Vita at launch, and i ended up not getting one at launch, and NEVER getting one because of how bad it was with it's pricing. It was such an expensive system and the accessories were even more expensive. I'm not excusing any o f this at all. I simply want to wait till tommorrow till we get more info  on games and hopefully online features. That doesn't excuse the fact that what we have is vague details that lean towards a dark future for Nintendo. But it could be positive and we simply don't know it yet. We don't know. I'm not defending the lack of voice chat or a scummy game service. I"m saying we literally  know nothing about either except basic blueprints. That does not change the fact that right now i'm leaning towards a more negative direction t han a positive one, but then again i'm not yelling at people trying to maintain some neutrality either.

Wow, just got up. $300!!!, even more hilarious is the £279 UK price tag, this isn't selling.

Yeah, if it wasn't because portable Zelda I would be out too.

Eh it's not worth it to me. I still have plenty of other games I can play on the go via 3DS, so I'm fine playing Zelda strictly on the TV via Wii U.

Can you give me a source about the free game only playable for the month? I don't remember seeing this during the presentation.

Is paid online mandatory? Or is it just a better version of the standard service?
