Forums - Politics Discussion - Man celebrating vote to repeal Obamacare learns he is on Obamacare

Let's go back in time abit....Before Obamacare the D's said 40 million people don't have any 'healthcare'. Which wasn't really true, they didn't have an insurance plan to reduce their healthcare costs. They were allowed to go to any ER to get free healthcare, along with anyone on American soil. Still applies today. Most of those 40 million were younger people working at min wage jobs in places that didn't have employee sponsored plans. The rest of the 40 M were the working poor adults in the same situation.  Obamacare came along and today 20 million people have the coverage. Leaving 20 million in the same situation they were  years ago. Most of the takers of ACA get a subsidy to reduce their costs to less than 100 a month. Most of The people who already had coverage through their jobs are now paying 2x more per month to cover the costs of the subsidies given to the takers of ACA. And they in many cases had to lose their longtime Dr bacause their plan was cancelled because some Ins. Co.'s couldn't continue to cover people.  Some of the posters here say the R's 'are going to 'kill 20 million people' or 'don't want you to be covered'. Well if 20 million people are today still not covered by ACA, the D's must want to kill them too. The ACA was rammed through way to quickly and on a partisan basis. The kinks needed ironing out before it was implimented. But the D's were too much in a hurry to 'impliment it before you can read it', that is is crumbling down on its' own. If the R's don't fix/replace it it will fail and leave 100's of millions without any Insurance. Because of the D's hurry job, we can never go back to the days where YOU work and YOU pay for your OWN health Ins. Sad really.

Dems have said and continue to say that there are parts that need fixing. Instead of fixing, the Pubs are going to just get rid of it. Which is silly since they don't have a solution themselves.

There are 7 or 8 different R plans for fixing the ACA. They have been working on the plans for a couple of years. Anyone saying 'they don't have a plan' is lying.

It works in germany and other countries. Why can't the us get it to work?

Reminds of the a relative of mine who attended the pro-coup protests in Brazil last year.

Six moths after the coup, the Institute of Technology where his son studies will de-funded for the next 20 years, his right to retire will be delayed for years, his wife lost her job, etc.

Overall his life is getting much worse, most of it as a consequence of the so called "reforms" by the plutocracy that seized the power.

Political education is an issue all over the world, people my relative or this guy on Facebook usually aren't able to predict the consequences of their votes or their political acts.

Because not all countries and situations are identical?

Any links or stories top these plans? Not saying they don't exist, but many Republicans have said they need to come up with a plan before they repeal ObamaCare. Apparently only a few of them know about these 7 or 8 different plans.

You can never ask Americans to help one another. Half of us are to lazy and the other half don't care. Americans are taught that we're better than the rest of the world so if we emulate another country's  plan that'll prove untrue and this shatter the belief system of roughly half the country. See, I love America. But I love her enough to tell her she's not perfect. Most people here think they love her, but they're really just obsessed and infatuated.

lol they had 6 years to come up with somethiing and never once shown anything concrete. Even now, they are talking repeal and delay. There is no replacement. All that was just more GOP grandstanding.

Yeah must be horrible to pay a little more tax so you can help poor people get the medicare they need to survive...
The US healthcare is fucking disgusting.

US healthcare sucks, but it's not simply paying a "little more" tax. Let's say you're a 25 year old, just out of college, and earning the median salary of $45,000 per year. The absolute cheapest plan on the ACA that you can pay for would cost $200.75 per month, or a little over $2,400 per year. That's with a $7,150 deductible as well. Factor taxes, housing, transporation, food, utilities, and other living expenses into that, and you have, according to Time Money, the average out of college student with around $675 ($8,100 per year) left to spend each month before healthcare. Now tack that $200.75 onto that, and you've instantly taken out nearly a third of your spending money that was left over (oh, and this doesn't even begin to consider paying back student loans, if you have any of those). Furthermore, this healthcare doesn't even particularly matter to you, except in the case of emergenies. You won't find many 25 year olds racking up $7,150+ of healthcare expenses in a single year.

To put it simply, this isn't a smart decision for the "young invincibiles" crowd that Democrats were banking on to make the ACA a success. And it's not simply people being selfish and refusing to pay a "little more" in taxes; it's nearly a third of their average disposable income leftover each month that may need to go towards a myriad of other things, such as a new car, or paying off student loans, or whatever. And for those who make less than the median $45,000 a year, good luck figuring out how to juggle all that. A significant number of students will simply take the penalty and pay $700 per year than take the $2400 a year hit for healthcare they will likely never benefit from.

And that's largely what's happened. The ACA isn't struggling because there's a whole bunch of greedy rich people up there who refuse to shell out an additional $200 for healthcare; those people already have healthcare and are already paying into the system. The ACA is struggling because it banked on convincing a large group of relatively unwealthy low risk people to pay much more for healthcare than they already were, and that's just simply not going to happen when their finances are tight already.

That's because in western European countries the systems were made at the time there still was nationalism with people considering everyone being equal. US have never been nationalistic and it's a country where there are only special interest groups instead of people who are equal. The same reasons that will make systems fail in Europe, prevent them from working in the US.
