For the record;

PS2 advantages over Gamecube.

3. Higher resolution 1920x1080i games like Gran Turismo over about 640x480p on Gamecube

How many PS2 games had that advantage? Oh... 4 games: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_games_with_alternate_display_modes

0 games in the PS2-important PAL-region.

Not many I agree but still shows technically it is capable of doing 1080i which the Gamecube isn't. Not even the wii version of the same chip with a 50% boost could go that high even with homebrew apps. It only has a 2MB frame buffer. It looks pretty amazing seeing GT4 on ps2 at such a resolution. Don't forget its 32bit colour too not the slightly more limited 24bit of Gamecube.

So now that the Switch specs seem to be leaked, I see one catch phrase everywhere: 3rd parties won't bother porting their games to the Switch! Oh noes!

I think the biggest reason you won't see a lot of ports on Switch is people won't buy core games on it. Not power.

PS3 and 360 are still very capable machines but got cut off because they don't move a lot of software. The Switch is more powerful than those machines and it could handle visually scaled back 8th gen games. For the most part 8th gen games is more polished graphics than the previous gen.

Yes, this is the root of the issue, I agree. The Wii U had strong third party software upon release, yet nobody cared. I think third parties should not port their mainstream games, but rather develop specific games that go well with Nintendos line up and maybe fill up some genres left open.

Well Wii U kept getting support from developers that made family friendly stuff. Like Lego games, Ubisoft content, Minecraft, etc.

Given the capabilities of Switch I'd like to see notable 7th gen content ported to it, Skyrim for example is a great choice. It will likely be successful in Japan so bring a bunch of 7th gen JRPGs to it.

Its going to get ports of 8th gen games, but I'm not expecting a lot.

Who says 3rd parties aren't releasing games on the Switch?

The problem with the original post is that he doesn't know how game development and software engines work.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Then

" I dont care if its only Nintendo games, who buys a Nintendo console for 3rd party games ?  "

You mean it happened once.

Please reread the OP. It's not me who thinks this, but there are many people on the internet who claim that the Switch won't get a lot of 3rd party games due to the low specs. They think that due to these low specs developers will have such a goddamn hard time porting their stuff that they won't even bother doing it at all. What I say on the other hand is that even when 3rd parties port their stuff, many Nintendo users prefer Nintendo games.

Yeah, but who cares? Nobody buys a Nintendo console for the 3rd party games. As you all may remember too well, the Wii U had a solid 3rd party line up at launch. What happened is that nobody gave a shit about those games. If you want 3rd party games, buy a different console because there are other places where they can shine, but not here, buddy.

3rd parties would be better off by releasing specific titles that fit the audience and the hardware that Nintendo provides. This strategy is something that Capcom has already stated to be following. Y'all may laugh about Capcom how much you want, but they are right. That's the way to success for 3rd partys.

Who cares?  Have you seen Wii U's sales?  With no 3rd party and no real interesting gimmicks to attract users, the Switch just isn't going to sell just like the Wii U, which ultimately means not only weak 3rd party support but weak Nintendo support and short console life, again.

It isn't really the successor the Wii U (or Wii U only) though. It's a portable game machine, so it's the successor to the 3DS, so it has the 3DS audience base to sell to, and over time I'm sure Nintendo will release versions of the Switch which are more battery efficient (14nm die shrink around 2018 sounds about right).

3DS owners are the main audience base for this thing.
