Forums - Nintendo - Due to new rumors about the Nitnendo Switch, Havin' 2nd thoughts on buying it...

I'll be waiting till the Jan showing, and then I'll be waiting to see how 3rd parties hold up as well as the main price point. Then I'll think about buying it.

Not expecting it to hold a candle to the X1 though.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

I'll admit, I wanted the Switch to ATLEAST top the Xbox One S console but damn, it's barely topping its PREVIOUS console? It's dissapointing.

The previous console for the Switch is the 3DS, as Switch is a mobile console with the option to connect to the TV. As such it increases it's power massively above it's predecessor, it has much more juice than the 3DS.

I am NOT a graphics person at all, I am not a power person... but I am a money saving person!

We all read about the dissapointing information about the Nintendo Switch's power....and its not good at all. ITS AROUND WII U LEVEL infact aaannnd that's not good at all. But thats what throws me off abit. Like despite the games, its a little upgrade for the console and a DOWNGRADE if you take it out of the dock. I'll admit, I wanted the Switch to ATLEAST top the Xbox One S console but damn, it's barely topping its PREVIOUS console? It's dissapointing.

Why the power effects my purchase: Why would I buy Splatoon and Mario Kart for full price all over again? I don't see any other games I want yet beside those 2 (The delays sorta ruined Breath of the Wild for me) and when the graphics are the same and a little more dlc? I don't really care for the handheld tablet idea either. I bought a New 3DS XL this year and I barely use it. I got it because I had money, and 3DS is great handheld and I wanted to keep a 3ds handheld forever. So I bought the new 3ds xl.

I  just can't imagine myself buying slightly more powerful console when theres not much of a difference.

What will make me buy a Nintendo Switch: The games. The games will always be the reason I'll buy a new console. I do plan on getting the Switch when the great new Nintendo games comes out, but as of right now no Switch games interests me and we'll have to wait and see what they come out with at launch line up.

It looks like 2017 is another year of PS4. Looks like I'll get the PS4 Pro over the switch this year. (I have a 4K screen and i'm taking advantage of it, thats why im getting the Pro)

Maxwell X1 alone is well and above Wii U by quite a lot.

No.

Nintendo pushed it as console first handheld second.

Nintendo didn't push anything. They showed a trailer, and a conference is being held on Jan 12th. No ads run, and a bunch of infos and leaks here and there from gaming journalists who can't hold their tongues.

Yeah, I would too, if I am a profit oriented company and more so if my last home console product is not so hot. I assume in Japan Nintendos PR focuses more on the handheld aspect. And look on it, even besides the technical specs, everyone basically cries handheld which also can connect to the TV, not the other way around. That PR says the moon is made from cheese is nothing new.

Waiting until there`s games you want on it does sound like the best move, for any console really.

I'm not, you're crazy.

This is something that is more powerful and technically advanced than the WiiU. Something that created amazing looking SM3DW levels, Xenoblade chronicals X, etc. Something that this Zelda BotW which also looks to be amazing. All the while being something that you can pick up and take with you at will.

All Nintendo games at home, perfect off-TV play, or on the go. This will surely be $250 as a max price. This will get future iterations of Pokemon, Monster Hunter, etc. all of the big portable games on the most powerful hardware they've ever been offered.

Yes it is saddening to know for certain that the big one-off 3rd party titles like RDR2 are more than likely not coming, but that should've always been in the back of your mind as a real possibility.

I'm still excited and will pre-order as soon as possible.

EDIT:

You keep saying its only slightly more powerful. That is wrong.

Compared to 3DS, this is a monster upgrade.
Compared to WiiU, this is more powerful in portable mode and a up to 3x more powerful docked. There will be obvious differences in ZeldaBotW and then many others once full games are made for NS.

"That should be fairly obvious when we consider that Xbox One S uses 16nm FinFET technology with gaming power draw in the region of 75-80W. Nvidia's GPU technology is more power-efficient, but it stands to reason that a mobile device (which typically operate with a 5-10W power budget) won't be in the same league."

buying a console in its first year is rarely a good idea, wait a bit, see how well it sells, pick it up in a deal and play some early games with a discount, early adopters rarely get rewarded.

Waiting is good, especially after the Wii U disaster.
