Forums - Politics Discussion - Trump: 'Nobody Really Knows' If Climate Change Is Real

So this confirms my theory. Climate change will happen on it's own. We're actually not causing it.

But...

We ARE worsening it.

When people talk about Climate Change, they aren't saying that nature doesn't already do it on its own.  People are saying we are potentially permanently damaging the planet with our contribution.  Just because models aren't perfect, it seems like people like to assume that it must not be real or the science must be flawed so there is no problem.

That might be the issue. People take a "not exactly" and make it into a "we're confident it's not" for some odd reason. However, at this point, I'd say if we look at evidence of the changes like with the regenerating hole in the atmosphere, then I think all we have to do's try and not rise any further over there.

I think people often blow stuff out of proportion and I've seen environmentalists and some conservatives say some stuff bordering on bollocks...

The ozone layer has got to do with UV rays, it's got nothing to do with climate change, just to clear that up. That's a whole different possible fuck up that we as a species actually managed to fix in time.

My father is a biologist and researcher. He used one of Reiner Protsch's work as base for one research.

Long story short, today he thinks most evolution evidences are made up and does not believe in global warming at all.

Breitbart... how's it different from any other echo-chamber out there that's supposedly part of the establishment?

It's funny how people believe that they understand things better than the actual scientists. People have spent almost their entire lives studying these things, but I guess your common sense beats that.

I also love the argument that scientists have been wrong before.

It's like going to the doctor for a check-up and he tells you you have cancer. And then you go "doctors have been wrong before. I'll ignore what you just said. We don't know for sure". Then you go to 8 other doctors and they all say the same. The 10th says you're fine. So, you take your chances and decide to do nothing about it.

Same with your car. Mechanics have been wrong before, so why trust them?

Well, guess what? They are specialists and as such, they're much more likely to be right than you and your limited understanding of the topic.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say right now.  Breitbart is who the video is addressed to, not the source.

Wouldn't it make sense to err on the side of caution though?

If you only had one car for the rest of your life and I said the radiator might be overheating and if it overheats it might destroy the entire car if you don't get it fixed ... what would you do?

Common sense says get the radiator swapped out or at least looked at and not just keep driving around assuming nothing is probably going to happen.

Not knowing for certain isn't an excuse for complete inaction given what's at stake.

No it doesn't because you could be wasting time or resources that could be used elsewhere instead of having to combat a future where you don't know if it's a doomsday scenario or not ...

It's just a stupid impediment to be paranoid about the worst case scenario to the point where it hurts productivity at every level!

Do you suggest that we don't use cars because of a possible chance that they'll crash ? Do you suggest that we destroy every possible electronics out there just to make the extreme environmentalists happy ? Do you suggest that we stop all development on science because of a fear that it may one day be used as a weapon ? Do you suggest that every country be extremely isolationist so that nations may never be at war with each other ? Do you suggest that we don't industrialize AT ALL so that we may never have machines produce CO2 emissions in favour of bringing world wide famine just to save ourselves from global warming ? Do we have to stifle human progress for the sake of the planet to the point where it won't serve our needs anymore ?

Surely you MUST be intelligent enough to see stupidity in these similar cases and that includes unfounded fears on a doomsday scenario of global warming ?

Global warming is simple physics. We know we are releasing more CO2 into the sky above us. We know molecules reflect radiation. We know this radiation creates heat. We know the increased heat makes the icecaps melt. We know the icecaps reflects rays away from earth better than water, meaning even more heat is absorbed. The heating will also thaw the tundras of the world, where vast amounts of methane are stored. Methane has the same effect as CO2. Heck, water vapor is a lot more potent than CO2, meaning water vapor is even worse for the climate. And when we make everything hotter, more water will evaporate from the oceans.

There are so many interconnected ways that all lead to more and more heat. I can't see how your father can tell you anything else with a straight face. Maybe to stop you from worrying, since we probably have fucked our selves too much all ready...

He's probably lying, or his father is actually one of those Christian (or maybe some other religion, I don't know) scientists who put their religion before their own work, cherry picking data and believing they know better than even their own peers.

He has a point. Scientists always think they know something, once upon a time the scientific community thought the Earth was flat

Incorrect, People have known the world is a sphere from the greek times

There were ties between science and religion for centuries. Scientists were executed for going against religion. There was no scientific community. There was a couple scientists and the Vatican who was working to keep everyone under its thumb. It looks like its going back to that era.
