Forums - Nintendo - [Rumor]Breath of Wild cancelled on WiiU

If true then that's really shitty for Wii U owners that was planning on buying the Wii U version.

Though this wouldn't be the first time this happened on a Nintendo system.

I remember being hyped to play Resident Evil Zero on N64 after playing RE2 on N64. They had gameplay showing it playing on N64, but then they just cancelled it and pushed it for the Gamecube only.

Makes sense to be honest.

Actually, it doea not make sense. If WiiU really is dead, it will not hurt sales on Switch. If WiiU isn't dead, it contributes to sales. Also the question is, how much WiiU-owners already are won over to Switch. So even if WiiU-owners still use the device, they may prefer buying Zelda on Switch. So, the interesting set of people would be the ones, that would buy Zelda on WiiU, but if not available purchase Switch for the game.  I doubt that are many. WiiU-owners either buy Switch right away or aren't swayed by Zelda.

On the other hand is the negative effect if the do not release it on WiiU. That would be PR-disaster and might turn away customers from all Nintendo-products.

So, if Nintendo-management made this decision they are stupid as hell.

Unless Nintendo is completely fine with shooting themselves in the foot, I seriously doubt this.

I wouldn't be surprised if BotW got a digital only release on Wii U, though.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I don't think it's true but if it is I really don't care. I didn't buy a Wii U just for Zelda and I'm not buying a Switch just for Zelda. I'm buying a Switch regardless.

Bad for Wii-U owners. Some would freak out and disavow Nintendo forvever. Some would be ok with it. Good for VGC drama. Friends might be lost. Feelings hurt. This gif would be used repeatedly simply due to confusion.

Same thing I said in that other thread. No.

They have continually said it is coming to Wii U. It is advertised on their own site as for Wii U. All the gameplay up until the Jimmy Fallon surprise has been on Wii U (E3, VGAs etc.).

They may be desperate and want to make sure the Switch sells, but not by pulling the rug out from their core loyal Wii U base. Man the fallout from that would be epic...

Didn't they 'just' show the Wii U build of the game at The Game Awards? If it was cancelled they wouldn't keep bothering to show that version and just move resources completely to the Switch.

Honestly being at E3 means nothing at this point. Nintendo didnt have anything to show for E3 except Zelda. It was a good marketing move and not having a wiiu version is not going to magically change that.

But what do you mean by the left hand corner?

I am curious to see where this rumour goes though.

It's a set in stone difference that anyone can see from watching the Switch footage and the Wii U footage, top left shows which version it is as one platform has a d-pad the other doesn't.

These are clearly two different versions shown just a week or so apart and E3 does mean something when it's the Wii U version that was heavily used to show case the game and even give players a hands on otherwise Nintendo wouldn't have bothered with all of that and just had a direct showing the game off heavily and that's it, even if we ignore E3 the would actually be no point in showing the Wii U version at VGAs either.

Take it with a grain of salt, but Tachi said before that it'd be on the Switch and not the Wii U

That would be a big slap in the face to Wii U buyer, but it sounds very unlikely.
