Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Yooka-Laylee launches April 11th, Wii U version cancelled, most likely coming to Switch

That would run on WiiU, thats just an excuse, if Xenoblade X, Bayo2 and the new Zelda can then theres no reason this game cant

Kinda agree, I don't think it'd be cancelled if it wasn't for the Switch but I wouldn't be surprised if it was delayed for Wii U. It "can" run is a very different argument of how easy it is to run. All those ground up exclusives build by much larger teams have much more time and resources to optimise than a multiplatform indie title. We've never seen the Wii U build  and it releases in 4 months, so development is essentially done now with the game going gold in the next 2 months.

If the game would so comfortably run on the Wii U , I expect the PS4 version to be 1080p 60fps but that doesn't seem to be the case. Indie games can rarely ever be compared performance wise to their more expensive, publisher backed counterparts.

Dat price... ugh.

39.99??? WHY?

Indies nowadays are mad entitled man, cancelling games and shit. Charging premium and shit. Releasing ports of mobile games and charging twice as much and shit.

I don't really support indies because most make cheap and crappy games. But their attitudes are horrible sometimes.

Its a full size, modern 3D platformer?

You can't look at indie games as lessor value $20 experiences just because they're indie.

Makes sense considering the wiiU is on it's last legs. I expect more games to get cancelled for it since it really isn't worth it for devs.

Makes sense. Nintendo has basically given up with WiiU of all but Zelda. Developers can follow suit and forget about WiiU as well, there's no money or profit to be made in it at this point that's worth the development/porting costs, it seems.

This being said, you can really feel the dishonesty from that reply. This developer acts all entitled despite being themselves the one that broke the promise of release in the first place.

Damn no Wii U release is really a disappointment.

I would say it's not surprising, but with what they were saying months before about working in-house for the Wii U version and giving it extra attention etc etc, that's honestly quite bad

Also makes me wonder if perhaps in addition to the financial reasons perhaps Nintendo also convinced them to instead develop for the Switch, as they'd much rather have it there too. Just conjecture though.

Man. I hope it doesn't get a delayed release on the switch. It NEVER bodes well when games can't at least get a simul release on nintendo products.

Not understanding the complaints on price. From what i've seen it looks like a full-retail-priced type of game. If it were some type of 2d side-scroller or had a poor art style i would understand, but it looks like a full on nintendo-brand game. I'll be fine with paying full price. Only unknown that could kill it is the length. Gotta hit that 20hr mark to be a competitive form of entertainment.

Another slap in the face to Wii U owners.
