Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is looking interesting again for the first time in almost a decade..

Nintendo is the only worthwhile gaming company besides the PC gaming realm.

In console and handheld space Nintendo is the only company that didn't go bankrupt or turn into a shadow of itself.

Yes! They are still far from just becoming third party developers! I mean where will the pokemon franchise go?

Have to wait until Jan 12, but the rumors of the over representation of Wii U ports (yes that includes Zelda) is not looking good.

I see that as a strength. They will be getting some big guns out of the gate right away, a few new - a few newish, and still be able to deliver a strong second year of all new content. After year two, all the engines are in place and games can be fleshed out quickly.

Third party support needs to be on Gamecube levels, not PS4, and Nintendo will be fine.

I've seen some people saying Nintendo has a hard time getting games out. Here's why that'll change with the Switch... they won't be trying to support two systems at once. All their software output is going to one console, not two.

^^^^THIS TIMES A HUNDRED^^^^

3DS will be around a little while longer, but after that Nintendo will only have to develop for one system for the first time since before the Game Boy. I certainly hope they capitalize on it big-time.

Here's the problem though; will they be willing to do what is necessary and kill 3DS so that Switch can get their full support? Or will they wimp out and cripple Switch by wasting resources on continuing 3DS support?

I honestly don't really see how much has changed.

The Switch looks like a basic evolution of the Wii U concept. If you told me 3 years ago "evolve the Wii U concept", Switch would pretty much be exactly it.

The problem is "hardware innovations" can't happen often. There's a reason why we have a wheel and not a new version of the wheel every 10 years ... "reinventing the wheel" is hard.

But they still make fun games so if you enjoy those then that's fine.

Nintendo likely is never going to again be the company they were in the 80s/90s. That was their peak IMO overall, Wii/DS era was more of fad driven bubble that popped but they were legit in the 80s/90s. But they still make great games today that are fun to play, so really I just enjoy the games.

The company is always going to make bizarre/baffling decisions, I think most people are basically just going to accept that.

You forgot nostalgia, gimmick and casual.

No Nintendo Bingo for you.

Maybe so, but it doesn't really change the fact that it's true.

A "bubble" is about the best term for it, just like things like Backstreet Boys and Twilight movies ... those were huge, but once the bubble popped it was over and fast. Or other examples in gaming -- Guitar Hero. Pokemon Go may also be headed down that path.

It happens.

They could have easily remedied this problem by releasing a 3DS player like they did with the Gameboy Player on GCN. They could have offered upscaling for 3DS games and it would have been a awesome solution for Wii U droughts and led to more 3DS game sales.

OT my hype for Switch is officially around dead. Maybe super dead. The Switch event in January will have to blow me away in order to rekindle that interest. But Wii U ports isn't going to make me buy the thing. All its going to do is make me wish that Nintendo updated the Wii U with the switch updates.

Well, that's cool that Ninten is starting to catch your interest again.

This is kinda funny to say, but I feel the Switch is actually less interesting than any of their consoles since after the Gamecube. Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS brought on interesting ways to play that I really enjoyed, so the Switch seems less interesting than those 2, but its concept is one I can get behind, just so they won't do anymore ports between portable and console u_u;

Ninten's involvement with mobile devices, theme parks and interest in movies is quite interesting as well.

Given that NSMB Wii/DS and Mario Kart Wii/DS have sold 6m since 2013 (ps4/xb1 release) whereas games like Ass Creed, Uncharted, Arkham, infamous are stuggling to match last gen's sales, I'm not so sure it was the Wii/DS that was the bubble.

oustide of Assassin's Creed your statement is blatantly false as those other games are matching their last gen coutterparts
