In court of law witnessing a crime and not reporting it is a crime as well.

I don`t think making a swastika out of toilet roll counts as a crime though.

Sure, but witnessing a sackable offence and not reporting it is the same thing in a corporate setting. Still I would have hoped that a person with an otherwise clean employment record would have got a written warning if they were merely a bystander. But without camera evidence for who actually did it then it's just the word of the offender and his "associate" that he wasn't directly involved, and as they say on the TV shows, neither of them are credible witnesses.

This is probably the first action to take, not write about it on vgc.

Anyways sucks to hear that spurgeonryan.

Loseing ones job before the holidays is always a rough thing.

Does walmart have a union?

Furthermore, would a union stand behind a person who is accused of what is considered to be a hate crime?

Yeah, I doubt a union is going to expend much effort trying to defend someone who is associated with anti-Semetic behaviour in the workplace.

If the story is true, I'm sorry you lost your job as you seem like a nice person. That said, you do deserve to lose it or at least receive a warning. Making a swastika at work could cause tremendous damage to the company and lost sales. It's basically like you watch someone shoplifting or a accountant stealing from deposits and didn't report it. It's your responsibility as an employee to work for the good of the company. A racist symbol, if it was reported by CNN could cost Walmart millions.

Well that sucks but if you didn't do it you shouldn't have got fired. Anyway welcome to the club I got fired from Walmart before also and so do most people that work there.

If I were you I'd contact my union representative.

What the hell is a union? /s

Exactly most jobs are non union now and Walmart is notoriously anti union.

Is displaying a swastika illegal where you live or dome thing? I mean surely it was made as a joke?

When you're working and in uniform, you're representing the store and the brand.  Making swastikas in your aisles is something that's going to alienate customers (hopefully) and possibly coworkers.  If this story is true, and he's a manager, the company can be liable for creating a hostile work environment (which is illegal).  If a customer or a coworker complains, it's an issue for the company.

But, beyond all of that, if you have an employee who, while being paid to work, is doing stupid shit like building a swastika, or watching someone build a swastika, you're probably not going to want them anyway.  You know?

Edit:  I'm dubious of this story, but if someone had time to do this on black friday weekend, when there were surely hundreds of productive things to be done, then probably not a model employee.

He said it happened a month ago (which raises the question of why it took a month for the employer to take action), but otherwise, you are right.

Well if you didn't have kids to take care of I would tell you to join your fellow veterans in the Dakota access pipeline demonstration in a couple of days. But that is pretty much a lost battle since the only candidate that would have stopped it from being build is Bernie Sanders.

At this time of the year? I am sorry...

I would at least try to talk my way out to HR.
It is truly a ground for termination... but I would at least try to talk to HR. Unless someone compalined, someone got hurt, etc etc. Ask for a better in-service for the staff and maybe you can get a written warning instead.

Don't worry, there's something for you just around the corner.

If you feel you were treated unfairly, your union might protect you.

But I have no idea if Walmart is unionised.
