Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Laura Kate Dale: Ubisoft Developing Rabbids & Mario Crossover RPG For Switch Launch Day

I, unfortunately, have to jump aboard the Rabbids hate train too. I dislike those, they almost single-handely ruined Rayman (Thank God for Origins/Legends), they're annoying and have zero charm for me. The idea of a new Mario RPG is amazing, but this combination is just...just...

Started trying to be positive about this, but now with the XCOM style gameplay, im with you on that train.Rabbids really?I mean, why not just freaking make Super Mario RPG 2 with Square?I really doubt they would say no if you pitched the project with a budget given!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

It sounds very creative and all, but 2 Marios at launch? Weird.

Maybe their original plan was to have Zelda, Pikmin 4 and this Mario Crossover for launch and 3D Mario for summer (that would cover all gounds during launch: hardcore, niche and casual respectively).

But after Zelda's possible delay things might have changed. :3

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

Not really into RPGs. Will probably pass.

Nintendo should not devalue the Mario brand and up-value other brands with such stupid deals.

Saying that this is going to "devalue the Mario brand" is a severe overreaction, it's not going to somehow make all the previous Mario games or future Mario games not as good all of a sudden or something. Even if you don't like it, it has no effect on any other Mario games.

Plus Nintendo is overseeing the development, so i'm pretty sure if they didn't think it was gonna be good this wouldn't be happening. They seem really strict about making sure their characters and IP's are taken good care of and represented well so they're probably making sure there is quality to it.

@ bolded: Yeah, this is the only thing that seems a bit odd about this rumor. I think it's probably true and this is a game that is probably being worked on, but having 2 Mario games at launch seems a bit much. Like, I feel like Nintendo would have wanted to space that out a bit more as they wouldn't want one title to eat up the other title's sales or something. But then again it seems like the whole first year of the Switch is going to be super packed anyway(in a good way, obviously), so who knows.

This crossover could end up being good, but I agree with the bolded. I want to see Geno comeback.

Guys, do you remember those Nintendo statements about being more open to let other studios use their IPs?

Well, maybe it wasn't such a great idea after all!

Well, I more hoped they would lend out the Zelda-franchise to the Lego-guys, a Lego-Zelda would be awesome.

As they say: expect the best, be prepared for the worst.

And in this case, it looks like the later may be what we'll get.

I thought we might get an Average to Mediocre game from this, then with the apparent genre being a SRPG akin to something like Fire Emblem I think it's going to be absolutely dreadful.

I really, really doubt Nintendo would allow anyone to make a dreadful game with their most valuable IP.

The best situation I can see is an ok game that no one asked for and no one will play.
